The Lamco feeder throws corn a long ways, so that the corn kernels are quite spaced out. My other feeders pretty much drop the corn straight down. All critters love to have the corn in one pile under the feeder, and the deer and pigs and coons don’t mind spending time searching out each spread out kernel around the Lamco. But the cows, fugitives from neighbor Ron’s property, don’t seem too willing to eat corn one kernel at a time. So, maybe there’s a benefit to the Lamco that I had not foreseen.

And, just to say it, the coons are not successful at trying to reach the spinner on the Lamco.

The further the corn is spread out the better. it helps quiet a bit to keep one dominant deer from monopolizing a feeder. Also keeps them there longer. Road corn is the same way. Put out a small amount of corn over a long distance. Its also good to have grassy roads cause it will take the deer all day to get to all the corn.

What timers do the Lamco use?

Mine has "The Timer" in it. I'm happy with it.

I have two L&Ts. Best feeders out there, IMO. And freerange is spot-on about dominant deer.

I have two of the Low and Throw Lamco feeders and absolutely love them. The only issue I have is that when set on the same throw time, one of the feeders throws much more corn than the other one. I have to set the lower amount feeder up to around 12-15 seconds to get a sufficient amount of corn thrown out. Does anybody know of a way to adjust the spinner to allow more corn to be thrown? Not a huge deal but kind of frustrating. Thanks.

That has to be an issue with The Timer. I only have one Low and Throw, and it throws about the way I want. And I mentioned that the coons couldn’t reach the spinner, but that won’t keep them from trying.

Klappenbach has three and the very same issue. One feeds out much less. I think it is how the spinner plate is set inside. He just feeds that particular one much longer. It must be tight.

Not familiar with that specific setup but normally if all else is the same then the distance the spinner is from the top will vary the amount thrown. I adjust my spinner plates so they throw the same amount per the same amount of throw duration. Usually .5” distance and I try to get within 1/16 either way.

I would check the flaps on the spinner plates. If they're not opening from the bottom - out, it might not throw as much as you'd like. Just a thought.

I did have a problem with the L&T I bought this past season. Both of mine are the 600lbs. Got the feeder places and everything installed. Filled 'er up and it worked for about half a day. Hunting that stand the next day and when it was time to feed, I could hear the motor run, but it wasn't throwing corn. Got down and checked at the end of the hunt and sure enough, the spinner plate came loose from the motor shaft and was resting on the bottom varmint plate. No set screw either.

Back to the dealer the next day, explained what was going on and he said to go ahead and take another feeder and bring back the one I had. Stand-up guy. Took the new one back to the ranchito, and before I set this one out, I put some loctite on that set screw and made sure it was good and tight. Transferred the corn to the new unit (that was fun!) that night and all else has been perfect.

Took the bad one back to the dealer and he said he's sold several hundred L&Ts and this is the first one that ever had any issues. Just a fluke I'm sure.

603, Im not certain on that particular feeder, but most "plate style" feeders do not keep those long arm coons from reaching the spinner. I know you can find the time some day, so measure those bottom plates. If not bigger than 25", or so, Ill bet money they are reaching the spinner. They can barely reach it, so its a slow go, but they got plenty of time and are persistent.

I’ll set a trap or two tonight and catch a coon for measurement purposes. Purely based on how long between corn reloads, I’m not seeing any undue corn losses. I really don’t think they can reach the spinner. The one pic above shows a coon trying for corn, but for every one of those, I have 50 showing no coon at the actual feeder trying to reach in.

I hope you measure one. I measured several coons front arms and they were 10" to 11"+. Several of the plate style feeders are about 9.5" to the spinner. Ive put video up close and watched them spin the spinner. They only have to touch it and some falls out. Slow process for them but they do it. This link is to a thread that goes into more detail and shows where others have added on to make the plates wider(which I have done.)

Got to be careful how I word this. I measured mine and it was 12". That's from the outside of the spinner to the outside of the plates. I have had an occassional coon on camera, but I think they've given up. Only had a couple of pics with them trying to get to the spinner.

That is longer than most(that true for both.) Im curious what specific feeder that is. Are you talking Lamco Low and Throw.
