I went up to the Texoma area this weekend to chase a unicorn. No luck but I'll try again.

While I was up there I stopped by Hagerman Wildlife Refuge in hopes of getting a few shots of geese before they all take wing and head north. Most have already left but there were still enough to get a few shots. Let me know what you think and help with the ID below.

The one in question is a juvy blue goose. The first pic is a Ross goose, not a snow.

Good catch on the Ross! I'd edit or delete the post to prevent anyone from using that image for ID purposes since I mistakenly tagged it as a snow but unfortunately 10 hours later I can't edit or delete it. I took a closer look at the original full sized image and the bill is lacking the tell-tale broad black edged, grinning patch that snow geese have, plus the neck appears to be a tad shorter but it's not a good profile to really tell. It's easier to tell the size difference when both a snow and ross are flying in a pair but when solo like this it's a tad more difficult without a nearby reference. Here's a couple of 100 percent crops of two of the images to show the snow vs ross details. Thanks again!

If they headed this way . They in for a shock.

They pulled in the snow plows yesterday .
it fill in faster than they could keep the snow off roads.

Ross geese get warts around their bill...snows don't. That is a pretty easy telltale as well.
