I am needing to till my front flower bed and add some nutrients with Azaleas and other plants.

Which one should I till with? This is almost full sun, but Azaleas struggled last year due to the heat and I tilled in black cow cow manure in the early spring. Didn't expect the summer to be so hot.

I know peat moss retains moisture and compost is usually better for azaleas.

I would probably do a mix. Peat will give you your biggest Ph drop and it's short lived. I forgot where you live Super but pretty sure it's NTX. Trying to grow Azaleas here is a losing battle. They love the acidic soils of ETX and not our high Ph/High Calcium. You can buy time by watering them with acidic mixes of vinegar or citrus acid. But at the end of the day you will see them decline. They live and bloom just long enough to cover the Nursery warranty. This is why you see Azaleas growing at The Masters and they look awesome with a soil Ph of 6ish and never see them here looking good year in and year out, for the most part, And the nurseries are chalk full of them in spring, knowing they will be replaced soon. Easy money.

A mix, and throw all your coffee grinds and orange peels in/around/under those azaleas to give them half a chance .

Buy a good compost. Skip the peat and give up on growing Azaelas in this area. Peat has no nutrients.
