Picked up a little cannon last year and plan on taking it out for a test drive in a couple of weeks with a group of friends. While doing a little “research” to educate myself on the proper and improper activities associated with firing an old black powder cannon safely I came across this and had to share it. I filed this in the “do not do” stack…

I did see on the last Shooting USA TV show. There are cannons being built to shoot golf balls. Pretty cool

We built one at the power plant using 1 1/4 chrome boiler tube. We bored it to shoot coke cans. Put your powder in, stuff a handful of paper towels in it, then a beer can half full of sand. Put a fuse in the fuse hole and run like hell. It will shot the cans around 500 yards. The newer thin aluminum cans don’t work quite as good.

It would be interesting to load with buckshot, then fire it electrically at feral hogs on feed. I’ll bet you could fire one electrically by robbing the the electric fuse from an Estes model rocket motor. Could likely use the same model rocket electric control to set it off.

My BIL's dad had a small cannon on his farm. It shot fruit cans full of cement. He'd sometimes fire over his neighbors house (quite a way away). The guy said he could hear the rounds go overhead.

That is going to be so much fun to play with Jes.

A few years ago I saw for sale on gunbroker a golf ball cannon. It was reasonable and I wish now I would have bought it.
