For you cast iorn guys you may want to check your local Walmart. I stopped at a few stores today and they were all closing out certain cast iorn cooking skillets, dutch ovens, and griddles.

Dad picked up a 15" Ozark Trail skillet for $6. Also saw Lodge Dutch ovens for about $14 (usually $50). Lodge Griddles for $13 (usually $50). Each store seemed to have different items marked down. Every store is different. The 15" skillet Dad got was $6 at one store and regular price at another store. Its worth a look if you happen to be at your Wally Mart though.

The 3 stores I was at today were:
Garland I30
Rockwall I30
North Garland

All 3 stores had various cast Iorn marked down but not the same items at every store. I had plenty so I didnt buy any of it. Dad only bought the 15" Ozark and I think a 10" Lodge for $7. One store even had a whole set marked down but dont remember which store it was.

Im kinda cast iron nerd and since Cast is gone I may 1 of the few here...

I recommend trade days for the old school aged stuff, they'll work w you on prices comes Sunday

A near 100 year old pan cooks like no other

My favorite and my 1st pan is a Puritan and 2nd favorite is a Martin Stove and Range, I have others but those get used a lot around here

I lucked into my Puritan, it's thin, smooth and worn

But yes Lodge will work fine but for the price, get a 100 year old pan for a few bucks more

^^^ You can take an angle grinder with a sanding disc on it and smooth out the Lodge stuff really well. The old stuff is still the best.

I am going to hit any Wal-Mart I drive past tomorrow looking for these deals.

One of the best things about cast iron is if properly cared for they last forever. I have all the pans I need at the house and deer lease. JCB, thanks for the info. I would pass it on to my daughter but my SIL would not like me any more. I wonder if they just have excess stock or if cast iron does not sell to the younger generations.

Hmm. I bought a Lodge 10.25-inch frying pan just last week -- for $20. Wanted to fill the gap between the 8-inch Griswold and 12-inch Wagner. I just don't care for the Lodge surface finish, and might just try the grinding trick.

I stopped in the Mesquite store and they did not have any of the cast iorn marked down but they were in the process of marking tons of other stuff down so the cast iorn may be next. Went through automotive to grab an oil filter and scored three 5 quart jugs of Valvoline 5w/20 for $11 each. Thats over 50% off oil which NEVER happens and it just happens to be what I run in the Dodge. Wish they would have had a pallet of it. They had some full synthetics marked down alot as well but dont remember the brands or weights.

So in summary:

The 3 stores I was at today were:
Garland I30
Rockwall I30
North Garland

That's a lot of time in fun traffic. You didn't buy any of the cast iron deals, but "scored three 5 quart jugs of Valvoline 5w/20 for $11 each. Thats over 50% off oil which NEVER happens and it just happens to be what I run in the Dodge."

You could have bought a drum of oil for the Dodge for that mileage cost. How much oil did you burn or leak in this adventure?

You are so smart.

I hit all the Walmarts in the area trying to track down some parts I use to make lures that cant be bought online or any place else. I pretty much never drive by a Walmart without stopping if I have time. The parts I need have not been available online for over 2 years now anywhere.

Most people saw this thread as attempt to help other forum members score some nice cookware at super cheap prices. You saw it as an opportunity to be a Richard.

I dont put a price on catching fish, but your smart *** comment is worthless. up
