getting ready for the Feb 10 Javelina hunt at The Chap. I've heard there will be no standby positions available, which is a big change from years past. I've hunted there for javelina several times over the years by standby.

Was there a couple weeks ago. I was in Baldy, it was a tough hunt. Didn't see any javelina. Only a handful of deer, and finally got my doe the last day of the hunt. There were a couple of guys in part of South Jay that saw some Javelina, one shot one and the other saw a group but held out for a doe.

We were in North Jay back in November. We threw corn in all of the senderos where the tracks went in and out of the brush. We went to grab a bite and change clothes and I could hear them before I got to the stand. Same thing happened the next evening when my son sat in that stand.

since there are no standbys, probably less hunters. I will certainly try and pick around the Jay pastures. I wonder if the wart hogs are still regularly being seen?
thx for comments

Good luck. Looks like it should be decent weather for your hunt. Please let us know how it goes.

had a great hunt. THe Javis are "where you find them" and I had plenty in my pasture. I actually shot mine at 200pm the first day, about 2 hours after putting out my corn etc. Most of the hunters saw Javis , a few did not. No standby positions, so just the drawn hunters spread out. Its always cool to see some nice bucks there as well.
The weather was way unseasonably cold and windy. Lows of 34 & 37 Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Congrats on a good junt. Javis are fun to hunt, especially with a bow but also with a gun.

my javi weighed 48-50 libs, a really big one. The biologist there told me to be sure and score the skull, he thought it might qualify for the Texas big game records.
