and needed a lawyer, how do you find a good one? Reading the post about the rancher got me wondering about this question. If I had to get one right now I would have no clue as to how to determine a good lawyer from a bad one or where to even start looking. Any suggestion or referrals?

I would ask friends and family for referrals.
I know several from work, church, the gun club, etc.

Google lawyers in Seguin and save a couple numbers. I already have a couple that are local to me and have used so I’m good.

I have thought about this in the past. My BIL is an excellent surgeon, and whenever I need a DR, I ask him who he trusts in whichever field I need at the time. (If it's his field, I just go to him) My Family law Lawyer is phenomenal and has done an excellent job for us. If I ever need a criminal defense attorney, I'll ask my Family Lawyer who he trusts.

I have a couple lawyer friends, I would get personal references from them, I would want someone who specializes or deals with shooting and killling cases.

Same here. Good lawyers know other good lawyers. I've got a couple I trust and would go to them for advice on whom to hire.

After the police mirandize you tell them that you would like to speak to that attorney that you cannot afford that they are willing to provide.

You could also go to super lawyers.com, most of the people you find on there are top tier.

Look up CLEAT attorneys in your area. They specialize in defending law enforcement officers who are involved in shootings. They will all also be in a private practice for hire. I have one in my contact list. I would not recommend the common prepaid legal subscription services.

I thought you only were read Miranda rights if you were being arrested? Why would anyone expect to be Mirandized for just being asked questions?

Because …..
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

In my opinion this is really important for people to understand.

"If you make statements that are voluntary and not in response to any questions, those statements can be used against you even if you are never warned of your rights under Miranda. Miranda only applies if you are being asked questions while in the custody of police."

https://coferlaw.com/criminal-trial...20that,in%20the%20custody%20of%20police.

Can someone in the know help here? If police arrive on scene and quickly ask a basic question for example like "What happened?" like as in determining what the hell is going on, initial responder, assessing the scene. A person can blab on and on while being recorded by a police cam prior to being advised of their Miranda. It could be admissible. Before police cams I seem to remember reading in a legal journal about a case where the responding police officer asked the possible suspect to just pause and tell their story to the detectives who were on their way.

Asking someone what happened is a normal question for responding to any type of call for service. It’s not designed to do anything except find out what’s going on. It’s not like an experienced investigator conducting a “Two step Miranda statement”.

I need a lawyer too. I have a decent one to go after money but would like a criminal lawyer just in case.

I would suggest going to YouTube a looking at all Massad Ayoubi's Videos. This guy talks funny and is arrogant, but he knows his chit. Lots of answers to your questions

Yep - listened to him in a lot of legal seminars.

Texas Law shield. $19.99 a month and they will be there in a hurry. Even give you a card to carry around to hand to police before they get there
