Our 6 year old, Cooper, shot his first deer Saturday evening. He’s been sitting with me in the stand since he was 2 and this year (22-23 season) we decided he was ready. Earlier in the season he shot his first pig and ever since we’ve been trying to get him a deer.
Saturday evening we were sitting our usual blind in our field. Cooper’s feeder is 86 yards and I have a feeder at 380 yards. One lone yearling came out to my feeder that we watch for 4 or 5 minutes then it just vanished.
At 5:30 twin yearlings came in to Cooper’s feeder followed by a big doe. I turned his chair to where he could get on his 22-250 loaded with some Sierra 63gr SP and as soon as he looked through the scope he got “the fever”. I told him to calm down and take some deep breaths, to which he did. He calmed a little but he was excited! We waited just a bit and she finally turned broadside. I told him when he was ready to put it right in her shoulder. He jerked the trigger. He hit her a little low, right behind the front shoulder and through the offside front leg. She ran out into the field roughly 20 yards from where he shot her and she was looking around for where it came from.
I quickly helped him reload as she slowly started moving back towards the brush. I told him to get back on her and when I yelled she would stop and he needed to shoot her again. He was calm, collected and dialed in at this point. I hollered at her and she stopped and looked straight at us and he drilled her right in the shoulder. Down she went! What a blessed day it was. I don’t know if he or I were the most excited but it was amazing. Extremely proud of this boy.
Afterwards we headed back to camp to show Mama and little brother. Hunter, our 4 year old, was so proud of his big brother and couldn’t stop talking about “Cooper’s first deer”.

Congrats, what an awesome experience y'all will remember for the rest of your lives. Even better he got to share it with his little brother.

Thanks yall. I'm sure there will be many more in his future. He loves being out in the stand. His little brother is ready to shoot one now but he has a LONG ways to go lol.

Frame that first picture. 20 years from now you'll see it is the best trophy you ever got. Congrats to the young man from the Chief.

Great story and pics!
Nothing else like it and would love to relive it with my son and daughter all over again one more time.

Huge congrats to both him and you!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
