I’m in the process of building a 22” 30 Nosler and a 22” 28 Nosler will soon follow for a Nilgai hunt on the King Jan 2024. I’ve already got a 24” 300wsm and I built it for an axis hunt last June…it’s awesome but I’ve shot 155’s @ 3300. Not big enough  Yes, I don’t need much of an excuse to build a gun…it’s part of the fun. Good luck! I don’t hunt unsupressed, I’m addicted to it. build the 28 Nos sub 6.5 lbs please. closer to 6 or less the better

I’ve never had an opportunity to hunt anything bigger than what a 7-08 can handle until now. I’ve got a chance to go after Eland and Red Stag. Yes, I’m sure a 7-08 will kill them, but recommend me a magnum round. you really only have two options. 375 H&H doubles or 300 WM/Nos/PRC/Norma PM BMD I cant remember if Kacee killed her eland with 7-08 or his 300 WM. I know she dumped a pile with 7-08 and 120ttsx including zebra and kudu

I will be because I’ll run a 180 in the 28 and a 190/200 in the 30. I’m done hunting unsuppressed, there is no down side to a suppressor that I’ve encountered except length…22” is handy setup suppressed and a good compromise of length on the big guns.

7 Mag or 300wsm with bonded bullets, 180+ gr in 300wsm will hit hard.

Not saying its right tool, but I dont over think short range shots And I've killed a nilgai with two shots from a .22LR, but it isn't ideal. You spend the money, time and travel hassle, its prudent to use a caliber that is appropriate to the game being targeted.

Anytime I hear this question, it's always 300 Win Mag. the round hits hard, ammo is easy to get, and plenty of good bullet options from muzzle to 1 mile out.
A 338 Win Mag is also good. But you can't find ammo for it. But, you can take 7 Rem Mag brass and neck it up to .338", and it's ready to load as 338 Win Mag. When the ammo guy says the good ole 300wm you should just follow his advice. No need to get fancy here.

RUM is too long.
Starting from scratch, .300 PRC all the way. What needed to be improved on the Win Mag was improved.

I won’t weigh in on the caliber debate so much as what bullet you choose afterwards. An eland bull is 2,000lbs on the hoof and you’ll be in trouble if you only take out one lung, even with a .375. Shoot straight with a tough bullet and most calibers mentioned will do just fine. Have fun with the search!
