I was thinking last night how much I like the hog light at my feeder (Boar Light). When a hog (or coon) shows up, the light goes from dim to bright, though slowly. I can watch the feeder with regular binoculars. Very helpful in hog shooting. And before I got the Wraith, I shot hogs with my 260 and the Leupold scope with Firedot. Using the Wraith, however, is a better approach.

Yep, a lot better than darkness cause humans can't see worth a darn in the dark. I still use lights I purchased years ago, cause I can't/won't afford NV or thermal and for my style of hog killing it'd be waste anyway. So, what else is on your mind?

I assume they come in red, as well. What do coyotes think about these?

Its a china almost street light - it turns on at dusk and stays on all night - movment trips it to high power ( pic shows light at high pwr). the whole top of the light is a solar panel and will recharge during the day. i have 3 of those lights and they are over 3 years old and still work all night long

I can tell you where i got them:

Ask for Larry Gresham

Its easy to find the bright white china solar street light but Not so much in green - i dont know if they were special order in green

The most important thing is that you have it mounted correctly (UP HIGH).

I've been shooting hogs over hog lights for 25 years and it makes a difference IF your set up allows for mounting the light up high....I've found that hogs accept it much more quickly (if not ignore it completely).

First...it doesn't cause shadows as much as a light mounted lower which can spook hogs. Second, they are sure to see the source of the light but hogs (most places in the U.S.) don't have any natural predators that come from above them (up high) so don't tend to see it as a threat.

Some lights now have a feature that allows them to come on at a low intensity and slowly build. That is fine....but can also cost you a lone, spooky boar at times.

I really don't like motion detecting lights that come on at full intensity (and a good number of hogs don't like it either). Better to just have the light come on at dusk and let the hogs choose to come under it or not. Suddenly lighting them up can spook them....especially where hunting pressure is heavy or they've experienced it before.

I know not every situation allows for setting up lights as one might like, but if you can mount them high (at least 12'-14') do so.

I also don' try to bath too large an area in the light. If you don't have night vision equipment its not like you're going to get 3-4 shots off after the first one.

We're having good success with a common 1000 lumen motion sensor light I bought off Amazon. We mount them on a 1"x6"x12" treated wood with a U clamp and put them on a T post 20' from the feeder. It only takes a few days for the hogs to get used to feeding under this white light and it gives the shooter a lot more light to shoot than any red/green hog light we've tried.

I'll go shoot a photo of one and post

I don't have photos, but we used to use a very similar setup with a solar powered led light from Harbor Freight. In our case it took the hogs approximately five minutes to adjust. I had game camera photos of the hogs, then the light came on and the hogs disappeared. Five minutes later they were back munching on corn like nothing had happened.

YMMV

We killed 4 hogs at 3 different locations last week under the white lights, they don't seem to be bothered by the light. We also have a 4000 lumen LED white light at camp that shines 140yds over our lake to a feeder that deer and hogs feed at almost every night.

I always read/heard that white light would not work well on hogs but that doesn't seem to be the case. I was looking at these lights from Walmart and originally planned on just applying some green file on them and mounting them up in the air. But might just leave them as is or go with the amazon set up like Wilson Combat.

Are you running these dusk till dawn or in motion sensing mode?

Thanx in advance,

White light doesn’t bother them.

How does the white light effect with shadows? Thought I read somewhere that was an issue but can't remember the reasoning.

White light doesn't bother 'em at my place and they ain't the kind to be afraid of their own shadow.

I have hunted hogs for years and the absolute BEST setup I have ever hunted with is my Slow Glow. It slowly gets brighter when tripped by motion. We have several locations on our ranch that we hunt, so we can move it around (very portable). I've shot with a gun from over 100yds away without a special scope and it's so bright that it allows me to sneak up behind the light and shoot very close with my bow. The light we have has the option of red or green light. We have the one with the solar panel attached, so we don't have to bother with batteries. I think they have an IR version now. Hoping to get a few more for our ranch soon.

The other cheap lights that I've used in the past suck...not enough light, spook the game (flash on) and have to change batteries every couple of months. We've noticed that our hogs can see shadows if you place them too high. The lights that go under the feeder aren't bright enough to shoot. Our hogs are scared of white light, but red and green don't seem to bother them.

I must have the same light that you do, with the slow glo. I shot a few pigs using a regular scope. Only went to the Wraith Mini because the wife said she’d buy me the Wraith if I’d shoot coyotes.

One thing I like about the light is that when it brightens up, I know there’s a critter at the feeder.

Yes, it's amazing. I love that you can change the color so easily. I like to use green for gun hunting and red for bow hunting. It's so bright that I can walk within 10yards of the pigs and get an easy shot. We've used the green light for exotics and coyotes as well.

Good to see good experiences with the Slow glo. I bought one, but haven't been able to use it much.

My daughter purchased me a Elusive Wildlife Kill light and Reaktor that I plan on setting up this weekend to try out. Will mainly be using the light to just alert me of something being there and then get behind my DNV scope to see what's going on. Any of you have experience with these lights?

I've used several Elusive lights before and didn't have a great experience with them. My Slow Glow puts out a lot more light and I like that I can change to red for bow hunting. I'm pretty sure they have a IR light too (I don't have night vision, but heard it works great from a friend that does).

I have some of them but they are several years old. I don’t use them much anymore because mine are not waterproof.
I didn’t see any mention of it on the website. Maybe they changed them. Check the paperwork that came with them.
I rigged up some dollar store steel pie pans to keep rain off them and hung them higher from 1/2” conduit.

I set up my green light, not sure how well it will work. I do plan on using a motion sensor streetlight with green film up about 12' high and see how that works. Walmart has one for $25 that I'll give a try. If it doesn't work I can use it for something else.
