Hey yall, newish to deer hunting here in Texas. First i want y'all's opinion on hollow point vs soft point and at what distance would you choose your pick at?
example is hollow point better then soft point at 200 yards or...
and what grain weight would you pick for your suggestion of bullet type. i shoot 308 and can reload any bullet type essentially.
what has y'all's experience been.

HP in 308 is usually a match or target bullet and usually isn't ideal for hunting. Personally, my favorite 308 hunting bullet is nosler accubond 150gr. Due to limited availability, I have switched to hornady sst 150gr. Haven't shot anything with the sst in 308 yet, but the sst 125gr is my go-to in 300blk. Any traditional cup and core soft point or tipped cup and core in 308 should perform admirably.

My 308 loves the 130 gr Barnes TTSX bullet. It shoots a very small group and no animal I have shot with it has required a second bullet and only 1, a pronghorn buck, has moved a foot after being hit and the pronghorn made about a 40 yard dash after I pulverized his heart.
