The other thread had me thinking about old deer, I know about what he ages and what he scores, but let's have some guesses. Pictures taken in Webb Co during Thanksgiving week, I've been doing this a while and every now and then one throw's you for a loop.

Wow!
His damn belly is so big it looks like he has a rupture of the gut!
I bet that deer is 7.5 +.

He's an under antler performing specimen aging at or about 5 1/2 and maybe 6 1/2. His browsing skills support additional weight instead of antler development making him the definitive sausage buck. He'll likely weigh less the next year and his horns will be at or very near what they are now.

Reminds me a lot of this guy . Similarities include body composition and lack of heavy staining on his hocks.

He’s b/t 8.5 & 9.5 yrs old, was hoping y’all would bite more on the score. I made a mistake by not killing him during Thanksgiving, I’ll post more details tomorrow.

Just sayen' - I don't think their teeth will let them maintain that heavy a weight at 8 & 1/2. Just think of all the big 'ol fat men you don't see at church.

Probably not unless they live at a protein and or cottonseed feeder. Then they can maintain or even add weight.

Hell, if they've been feed eaters their entire life, it isn't at all uncommon for a 8.5 year old deer to have 6.5 year old teeth with only the first molar being 'cupped'.

If deer suffer the same fate as other older animals and some older animals and lose the ability to breed, that could account for his hocks being clean or maybe he is a little light in the loafers and has never been a breeder---some malfunction. That could also account for him being a chunk.

On the age - he was definitely at the end, fourth molar was at the gum, 5 and 6 were right above the gumline, I'm not good enough to say 7, 8, or 9, I just know he'd seen his better days.

Looking at his rack, we didn't give him much thought other than he's one that needs to go and eventually I'd get a kid over there to shoot him as a cull and skull mount him. Fast forward to the week b/t Christmas and New Year, I go to pick up my oldest son at this stand after the morning hunt and this deer is out, my oldest wants his younger brother to kill him so we shoot him off the top of the truck.

I walk up to the deer, his head is probably 1.5x the size of our normal mature buck, and looks just like those donkey pics above. I had seen this deer in person and completely misjudged his size, goes back to my original post about throwing me for a loop, and this one did that. He was definitely a fighter and breeder as he had most of the bucks in this area broke up, he walked the senderos like he owned everything and I wish we had killed him alot sooner. He scored right at 130, his L G3 is 9in and R G2 is 8, mass was carried all the way to the end of the mainbeam, and I'm getting him mounted for my middle son.

Wow. I wouldn’t of said he scored 110 from the first pics. He’s actually got more points than I thought. He must have a huge head to hide score like that. I measure the heads on all our bucks and they are usually about 12” from front to back on average. How big was that head? What did he field dress?

I thought the same as freerange did. Glad the young man connected on that big old bruiser.
I am also curious of the inside spread. I am thinking it is wider that it looks do to the size of his head.
Nice deer, but he sure was hard on the big boys.

If you had sent me that first pic and said he was 130 I’d say you were crazy, hell 110 would have been generous from my first glance at him. Didn’t weigh or measure anything but I’d say 150 dressed, head length wasn’t that much bigger but the circumference was the biggest I’ve seen. Just made 42 yrs on this ranch and didn’t see this coming. 10 pt, 9 in longest tine, 13.5 inside, 4.5 on bases. Best reference I can give you right now
