Thinking about making a road trip from East Texas to Galveston area to buy a gallon of oysters and some other seafood.

Anyone know what they cost now?

Just go to your local Asian grocery Store, get fresh caught, much cheaper.

I haven't bought any this season but they were about $20/quart last March.

I think I remember there being a problem with gulf oysters, you might want to check on that before you head down.

It was a recall for Houston oysters around the end of December. Apparently there were some hospitalization because of them.

They pinned it down to a single harvesting location during a specific time. The ones they are shocking now are fine, my wife had some in Galveston a couple days ago.

Don’t go all the way to Galveston. Go to Prestige in San Leon. They supply the majority of Houston restaurants with fresh oysters

The oysters around the Houston port are the issue. Port Houston doesn’t have international anti dumping laws, meaning vessels pull in to unload cargo and literally dump months worth of human [censored] into the water. That’s why they say not to eat the fish around the Houston port

Normally buy them in Kemah when we come, typed Galveston for some reason.

When I lived in Dickinson, would buy them in San Leon.

Need to make a road trip to that area and try to come on the weekends to miss the traffic in Houston.

We have our own oystersfest in Galveston every March. I shuck a couple bags and cook some and leave some on the half shell. Can't wait.

From my years in New Orleans, Dixie beer and a sack of bar oysters, I still have my shucking knife and lead. Anybody wants them can have them. I actually might have 2 oyster knives. Free.

Really? You been lately? I have never seen an Asian store only sell frozen seafood.

The ones in my area have all kind of live seafood and fresh water fish. I see live talipa, frogs, snails, crawfish, etc. Best thing we buy is the Wild Caught Shrimp with heads on for like $6lb.

They sell all kind of crazy fish like black bass, carp, drum, Sandbass they are dead and not frozen.

My wife usually buys fresh caught Pompeno almost weekly and grills it, pretty tasty.

I don't know if they will sell directly but the Black Pearl in Tyler imports oysters from the east coast and their prices are actually good. We pay the same prices in Tyler as we do when we are in Cape Cod during the summers.

I was in Rockport last week. $40 for a quart. Go to Golden Seafood market in Seabrook, he has shucked and unshuckled. Lim is his name and he runs a good shop. I went weekly for many years
