Was doing rounds this afternoon at the various water treatment plants that my company operates and had the door open on one of the plants as i was moving chemicals into the building. Well in walks a hound.

Beautiful female with a GPS collar but no other tags. This is in the middle of a subdivision. She was clearly lost, confused and cold. Opened the door to my truck and she hopped right in, sat long enough for me to take a quick pic and than laid down on the front passenger seat. I turned the seat heater on to medium and she was pretty quickly nodding off.

I figured there was a good chance her GPS battery was dead due to the cold so posted a pic on a local community facebook group saying where i found her. Within 6 minutes someone recognized her and 45 minutes later her owner picked her up and confirmed the GPS was dead. He was very grateful - they had been running coyotes at sunrise and lost her at some point during the hunt. The hound:

Strange how that works - this is the fourth lost hound i have rescued in the last 5 years. Every time was able to track the owner down through Facebook etc. Only had to overnight one once before the owner was located. No idea how long this girl wandered around the subdivision but she seemed to trust me instinctively. Needless to say i am a dog person and currently have 2 Walkers. I may be cynical about most things but a good dog is worth more than most people i know and hope if my dogs ever needed help someone would return the favor.

Kudos for rescuing her and the other hounds! The owners should be grateful.

I recently adopted a pup that had been seriously neglected and mistreated for her first two years. It’s been a slow process of lots of love and patience to gain her trust. The adoption agency said it was critical to keep a harness on her because she would run away the first chance she gets so I got an Apple AirTag for her collar. She’s doing great and no longer is in the harness but the AirTag seems like a good idea as it’s small and the battery lasts for a couple of years.

It wouldn’t help in a completely rural area as it requires someone having an Apple device nearby to ping off of, but lost pups usually find a dog angel like you were today.

Good thing you did there. We have a Yellow Lab that wondered into our neighborhood and we never could find out who owner her. She has been ours for 6 years now.
Our neighbor had one go missing for 2 years that got returned to them because it got posted on Facebook.

Between this and that birddog/utv theft story in NM, perhaps there are more merits to Facebook than I give it credit for.

GREAT JOB!

Hey alright!! I wasn't so lucky or was I? Found a Momma dog with 4 pups under the neighbors shed - told him they're on your property so you gotta deal with em! LOL! He says naw I'll just shoot em! So I have a total of six dogs now!!!!
