I've never posted in here but I've read for a while. I got prompted to post by the recipe of Keto Chicken Tortilla Soup in the recipe section realizing that maybe more folks are on the Keto train.

Those silly old new years resolutions things usually get me at the beginning of the year. I make it 2-3 months trying to be healthier and then I fall back to my normal tendencies, but I'm trying to stretch this one to May or June. Long story short, I picked up Keto with the hope to lose some weight and encourage me not to drink as much. I realized in December that I had a problem with my drinking, I was eating like crap, and I was definitely overweight. I usually do a dry January, and this one is no different -- not a drop since new year's eve. I'll break that commitment for a bourbon on Saturday for one of my good friend's birthdays, and I'm considering getting back on for dry February and even March. I'm finding that I'm sleeping so much better without having had any alcohol. All of that said, it's going to be hard to go through summer around the pool and dove season without some beers, so June is a lofty goal.

Couple that with keto -- I'm under 20 grams of carbs a day and probably only eating about 1000 calories -- and I've dropped from 198 lbs to 183 lbs in less than a month. I wanted my body to get used to it before I started any strenuous workouts, so now it's time to start layering those in. My hope is to get down to the 170-175 lb mark, reduce some fat, and add some muscle along the way. I'm also hoping that this will drive my T levels up since I'm on the lower end of the spectrum (thanking myself for that one since it's probably me being overweight).

Kind of a ramble, but hoping some other folks can chime in on what they see working or not if you're trying the same thing.

Lost 65 pounds in 8 months on keto 3 years ago, went from 267 to 202, on any given day my weight is between 205 and 210.

I did induction, 20 carbs or less the whole time, now to maintain my weight literally +/- 2.5 pounds I typically do between 30 and 50 carbs a day.

It is the only thing that has consistently worked for me. I don't smoke, I don't drink, and I feel really good for a 50 year old man lol.

It works for sure

My wife went from 107 to 92 lbs in a few months

Only things suxs about it, it can raise you chlorestol levels, but it does have many positive effects, I think it's best when paired with fasting.

Keto works. My ideal weight is 175-180. Deer Season and holidays, I push 190. Hard core Keto for two weeks and I'm right back where I need to be.

It absolutely works. Dr. Ken Berry has a huge amount of information on Keto. Another good person is Dr. Eric Berg. Carbs are the root to lots of health problems.

30 years ago, it was called the Atkins diet. Now it's called Keto. Same exact diet. and it works. As Big bob says, it is supposed to be a lifestyle change, not a diet. Well, I like my bread way too much for it to be a permanent lifestyle change. I did it hard core with heavy workouts and some seriously long runs (10 miles on Saturdays) in my 20's, and dropped from 235 all the way to 190. I'm a skinny sombich at 190 lbs. Took me almost 25 years to get back up to 235 lbs. Started back with Keto, and I'm already back down to 224. It works to keep your weight down.

Curious here too. Do you know your TDEE? 1000 calories is very very low for most men. For reference, I need to eat around 3000 calories in a normal day to maintain body weight. My diet is usually around 2200 to lose a little over a pound a week. The lowest I ever did was 1600 calories to lose some immediate weight post college ball and got from 290-260 in 3 weeks. Now I stay around 250-260 without dieting. Would like to get down to 240 but need to be in the right mindset to start that.

My diet varies day to day, but usually some combination of chicken salads, brisket, ribs, eggs, avocado, peanut butter (no sugar added), nuts, jerky, etc.. I'm not following fat macros because I want to pull from my stores, but I am trying to keep at or above the protein macros to make sure I minimize muscle depletion. I have a lower TDEE since i have a desk job. Without workouts, I'm probably between 1700-1800 calories. Add a workout in, and I'm more in the 2200 calorie range. All of that said, I'm not really fighting hunger or depriving myself. I had to struggle to finish my grilled chicken salad last night knowing I needed the protein and nutrients.

The book taught me the science behind it, why it works, and I learned a lot about food you think are low in carbs but aren't.

I have never been the type to jump on board something without researching it.

That's just not accurate. Carbs from fruits and vegetables are not the issue...yes, you gotta watch eating watermelon/cantaloupe at night (you want to eat them before 3:00 p.m. if you're trying to lose weight as the sugar can do the opposite). It's the processed carbs you gotta watch.

I'm down 104.2 pounds since 9/1/21. I used to buy into the whole eat more protein junk...and I stayed fat eating 'healthy'. Now I am rarely tired, lost the weight and eating foods I've always eaten, but I'm eating 1 serving of lean proteins and more (A LOT MORE) veggies. I eat 4 to 5 different vegetables at every meal. I have asparagus, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, green onions, zucchini, beets, corn, pinto beans, lima beans, green beans, radishes, broccoli, watermelon, blueberries, sweet potatoes, etc. I mix it up so I don't get bored. Processed foods and refined sugars are killing us.

Smart. The internet sucks. The book doesn't lie.

Big low carb fan here...down 47 over the last 2 months. Cheat day maybe once per month. I feel better, sleep better, mind seems clearer, etc....recommend it to anyone looking to lose weight and not have to exercise like a mad man.

Also low carbing. Lean meats, no starchy vegetables, lots of leafy, lower calories total and more exercise.
I've been averaging 2-3 lbs. per week.

Now of days the have many Keto Substitions for those

Potatoes you steam cauliflower and add butter, salt, pepper and sour cream and it taste about the same, believe it or not

They have all kind of keto breads/tortillas now of days

It's much easier now to be on Keto than it was just a few years ago

Keto is amazing and sustainable. I eat a ton of eggs, cheeses, steaks, bacon, sausage, butter, avocados, etc. I am never hungry and feel great. I really am not putting any effort into it just avoiding carbs and I have gone from 208 lbs at Thanksgiving to 174 lbs today. I used to deal with minor but nagging pain in my knees, elbows, and back and it went away when I ditched the carbs. It is amazing what having 30 lbs gone from your body can do. I feel so much better.

my boss lost 107 lbs 7 years ago. He lives keto. He will cheat once or twice a month, out side of that he is pretty strict.
only negative i can think of is actually a positive. He worn a traeger smoker out from cooking some much meat.

He wont even use rubs with sugar in them. Apparently onions are high in sugar too

Onions have carbs but they also have some fiber. As long as you aren't eating a full onion, you're good.
