I am considering my first in-line muzzleloader. Pretty sure i want just a .50cal, sort of want iron sights on it but also need it to be scopable, and i'm thinking preferably 209 ignition. Something to cover some longer distance shooting in ML season on my home place and something with an added degree of reliability for public drawings. That way come the day i might get drawn i have a qualified weapon that would provide me the highest chance of success in terms of accuracy and distance capability that i'm comfortable with.

i've looked at the regular CVA wolf? they seem reasonable?

I have the Wolf with an OLD Leupold Varix II scope. I am currently shooting 2 triple 7 pellets and a 250 grain SST sabot. It is a good entry level muzzleloader.
Sometimes I can get 2-3" groups at 100 yds, but most of the time I will have 2 holes almost touching and then the 3rd might be 3-4 inches away from them which is plenty good with this setup.
I have recently purchased the Blackhorn 209 loose powder and the BH breech plug but have yet to find the 209 Magnum primers that is suggested to use with the BH powder. I have been told that working up a load with the BH will improve the accuracy. The Powerbelt hollow points actually group the best in my Wolf, but I have seen mixed reviews on how PowerBelts in general perform on Wild game.

I use a CVA Optima with a Bushnlell 3 x 9 scope. Using two White Hot pellets with a 250 gr Hornady Sabot I consistently get 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards. Have taken several deer with it. Lots of fun to shoot and it is good price.

I have a stainless steel wolf. It’s a good gun, good one to find out if it’s for you.

Iron sights I had some issues holding zero, could not get the front sight tight enough to keep it from moving with recoil. Stripped the heads on the very soft screws, had to saw into the sight to cut slots and take them out.

I just use the scope now.
