So I have the cameras on a 3 minute delay and didn't get any of the intense action, but it was an interesting sequence of events. In the first pic, you see the coyote, and if you look close there's a deer behind the feeder. Not sure how the deer let the coyote get that close. It then looks like a pig comes in and interrupts them, but then the deer eventually gives it up I'm leaving a bunch of pics out, but they're all essentially just the coyote moving around the deer all night long. The last daylight pics were taken with a phone. Buzzards were on it by the morning, too. Nature is harsh.

Seems strange the deer did not move away.

Buck doesn’t look in bad body shape so not thinking sick. Could have been chased down to exhaustion, but agree the scenario is strange

I don't see anything that would make that deer act that way. It is almost as if paralyzed but there is no way a coyote could paralyze a deer.

Weird set of pics. I wonder why the coyote didn't finish the deer and eat it. Being left for the buzzards makes me think something was wrong with that deer and the coyote wanted nothing to do with it. Seems odd a yote would hang around all night and not take some meat.

What I have seen with coyote kills on larger animals is the coyote will open up the belly to get access to the heart-liver lungs and such first. The actual meat part is sometimes taken later.

Coyote really didn't kill that deer. It was sick and about to die at the feeder. Coyote was there to finish it off faster if needed.

I agree. Given the fact it is a Spike I would not be surprised if someone made a bad shot on him during the extended season or MLD season and the Yote could smell blood and knew the end was near. That opened area in his rib cage is more consistent with bad shot placement than an area that a Yote or Buzzard would target first for a meal unless there was an opening there to begin with.

That hog might have gotten a bite or two as well. I was hunting near Buffalo gap once and shot a doe, after waiting for it to die in some cedars close to sundown. I crawled under the limbs to retrieve her and came face to face with a hog eating her bottom. Scared the beejezus out of me, and the hog.

100% agreed

He was sick and or injured. Could have been fevered up from even a minor injury.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

We have all seen deer do stupid stuff on the roads when startled.....so here is a thought.

The coyote was down wind to a young, unassuming deer. Coyote startles deer and it breaks/paralyzes something when it crashes in to the feeder trying to escape?

May be a little far fetched....but stranger things have happened.

IMO this deer was "poached"! You can see a wound on the top of the back, blood coming from the spine. Probably shot from a tree stand or something elevated.

My 2cents I think he was gut shot and just picked that feeder as a place to die. Dates overlap with late youth season.

You guys got me thinking so I went back looking at the pics to see if there was something prior to the first one I posted above. There were no pics at this feeder right before this sequence. There is however a pic of what appears to be him at that feeder a few hours earlier. He looks healthy in that pic. No wounds that I can see. No one was out hunting that weekend on our place, either. But not saying he couldn't have come from somewhere else. Looks like he's spooked here but there's a pic 3 minutes later with a decent buck eating at the feeder so guessing that's what pushed him off.
