Yes. We had gas wells on a ranch just outside of Aledo several years ago. They had 2 of them.

Never seen one in the wild but it could be an albino or it could be leucistic. There is only one way to find out and that is to take it during spring turkey season if legal and check the eyes.

I have seen quite a few wild Leucistic turkey in the wild both Rios and Eastern. Many of those hatched do not make it to adults their camo as young does not work well.

About 40 years ago a turkey farm near here was destroyed by a tornado. The white ones mixed in with the rio grands and there were hundreds of mixes over the years. The white ones are all gone now. Not a good color in Texas.

A little info from NWTF on different color turkeys can be found at https://www.nwtf.org/content-hub/wild-turkey-appearances

You have to scroll down but they do discuss the various color variations that are common.

Back in the early seventies there was one on the ranch we hunted, the land owner thought it was a tame turkey gone wild? Gillespie county.

I have no idea, but I would guess it is a domestic turkey that lost its way.

^^^^

Yep, not a good color at all.

Unless we had a 'snow day'....the rest of the year it would stand out 'Like a diamond in a Goats A$$'....not a good thing.

With respect to predators....a white turkey in the wild just screams 'Take ME....Take ME...!'

One of my Dad's hunting buddies killed a white one in the Canadian River bottom north of Borger, back in the 70's.

Aren't most of the turkey predators colorblind? Wouldn't they just be a bit lighter shade of gray? Or "A Whiter Shade of Pale."

I have seen one like him in Mississippi White gobbler with a black beard. That one was an Eastern but have seen white hens in Texas and quite a few smoky gray ones and found a couple dead ones well just the feathers from a white young one and gray youngster in Eastland county. Hard for them to hide when young so lots do not make it their first year.
