In fairness, only a few months distance between 2022 and 2023 purchase. But the 2023 purchase is the first time I've ever bought primers at a base price over $100 Honestly, I was just happy to be able to score some LRPM in that purchase. Cheers boys, buckle in for the 2023 ride

Speaking of Putin... Sure glad we were able to import a BILLION+ rounds of Russian ammo in 2022.. nothing like cheap Russian ammo to help fight the Biden inflation. So sad that the last of those import permits will be expiring in the near future... will be interesting to see what happens to ammo prices when we lose the availability of a 1,000,000,000+ rounds for the year... I think technically the last import permits can go through August 2024... but the vast majority of them will be expired well before then. It's going to be interesting to see if the supply slowly goes down as the permits expire or if there will be a redirection of imports through the still valid permits.

Seeing your 2020 price on Winchester 748 made me remember when I bought it in 1990. I had my FFL and I bought 2 cases of 12 cans to a case for $4.00lb and I also bought a case of 760 at the same price. The 748 is long gone but I used the last of the 760 today.
some people like silver and gold I like brass and lead with a little powder in between

Oh man, you're talking about handloading years long before I was doing it. $4/lb ... That's so far off from what we have today that it's hard to imagine.... @ that rate, I could buy 100 lbs of it for just a few bucks more than that last Powder Valley order... wouldn't that be nice! Just checked PV...$33.50/lb today. You could almost buy 3 lbs today for the price you paid for 24 lbs in 90' ... eek. Best I ever saw powder was mid - high teens and I certainly miss those days... but the days you're talking about...you might as well be describing the lost city of Atlantis, it's that hard to imagine

I bought 5000 primers on sale from Midway with haz-mat waived for $140 shipped right before this crap started. Did the same with lots of other "stuff" too. Wish I had bought more.
Pass the gravy.

Yeah primers were cheap back then too. We were dedicated varmint hunters back then so we shoot a couple of thousand rounds each year until 1993 when I got a promotion and didn’t have time to hunt. Primers were $9.50 a thousand. I just started back heavy reloading a couple of years ago and I had around 30,000 primers. I saw today were they were over a $100 a thousand. At those prices I had $3,000 worth of primers.

I'm somewhere in the middle of this. I started reloading around the time my first kid was born in 2016. So buying $35 or $220+ for powder seemed crazy. Further more expensive brass seemed like a complete waste of money. But primers were $3-4 per 100 so I got about 3-4k. i was too was buying as it climbed and paid various prices, getting me up to about 10k now. Neither powder, brass (in particular high quality ones like Lapua) or bullets have goen up as much as primers BUT they still are the least costly of the 4 components
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!
