We built a shop last year and one of the 'final' things it needed was a big A55 work table. It took longer than anticipated to complete, but I'm happy with the result. It may not be pretty, but it's solid and heavy. Everything is glued plus bolted\screwed together. Frame sits on ledges (dados?) cut into the legs. If there is a tornado, I'm hiding under it.. 4' x 8' X 3/4" plywood top, on a 2 x 8 frame, with 2x4 cross supports 6" x 6" posts for legs Removable castors for moving it around the shop. Height matches my smaller workbench and the reloading bench. Still needs a few final touches: 1] A couple of power strips mounted to the legs, that will go to redactable overhead drop. 2] Pegboard on each end, recessed to the back side of the legs 3] Probably Doors on the front and back. recessed to the back of the legs I intended to take pictures during the process, but like normal, I failed in that

If you have grandsons, and or great grandsons, they will be fighting over that.

My last free-standing work table was too light ...brass tumbler made everything on it vibrate, enough force on the vice would lift up the other side, and it loosened up over the years. I do not want to see any of those issues over the next 20+ years. There was a little internal debate on the width. 48" is too wide to reach across, but its free standing, so you can walk around it. I also have two big drawer type tool boxes that will likely live on top of it.

I like it, and I'm digging those casters too. Am I right to assume you step down on that lever and it pops the wheels down on the floor for moving?

Several of mine in the two shops are like that. The only improvements I would make would be to cover it with galvanized sheetmetal, and bend the sides down to cover the plywood edge. Eliminates any chance of it delaminating if it gets wet or oily. I can paint, glue, work on oily things, and even tack weld small pieces on them. Cleans right up, doesn't rust, and can be polished with a wire brush if necessary!

Correct...and the casters mount on a slip-in metal bracket, so you can remove them or install them in about 10 seconds each. The casters themselves are rated 650# each, but the hardware is rated for a Max of 800# for all for combined. That is likely because the first leg you raise up takes a lot of force, and that process fells a little goosy. Once up on all 4, its solid and rolls with ease around the shop.

Very nifty contraption and I'm certain my future builds will incorporate a lot of lessons from your build. Great job, sir.
