Yesterday am I hunted my wetlands here at the house. Everything had been frozen but noticed one of my lakes had an open spot so that was where we hunted. . The 3 of us ended up shooting some Widgeons, Gadwalds and Teal. They all came in legs down text book. Saw very few birds.



Went up to my place on the Sulphur with high expectations….. Everything was still frozen except one small spot on one of my lakes. The boys went out last night and got the blind ready. We had an awesome hunt for the 8 of us. 17 Mallards and 3 Gadwalds. Not many birds moving but the ones we saw came in legs down….Great last 2 days.

Looks great. What area of the Sulphur you guys on? My place is right off the Sulphur. As well. Just a little sw of de kalb.

Boys had a pretty good shoot yesterday on our place.

Nice shoot. Wish we had some divers.. lol. I know most people don’t but Gadwalls all the time get old.

Ha, last 4 shoots we have passed on them. Few birds short of limits a couple of days- I will shoot Bull Cans and Red Heads all day long though. Most of the Ringers have moved out. Mallards came in pretty late in numbers Thursday in Fannin. Acted like fresh birds Decoyed well. I rested both places during winter blast for 10+ days

Mainly talking about the Redheads. Hadn’t shot those in years. Hadn’t had a chance at a Bull Can yet. They will be on my list to harvest. I mean we could go to the coast for Redheads but don’t want one that bad…

Man. I went from being covered in mallards early in the season. To divers. Now I’m covered in redheads. It’s crazy. We had to really watch Saturday after we shot our limit in them. Still have a few mallards around. But always a mix bag. Never know what we are going to shoot. Lol.

Sinkey, I think it’s related to water level- Soil Conservation lake I cant control, but did pull a 6 inch board on my wetland Friday to see if I get more puddle ducks. Mainly GWT and pintails right now- with a few wigeons gadwalls and mallards. See if gamble pays off.

I know this is not much help for you Texas but it always amazes me how many Pintails go to Venice Louisiana at the mouth of the Mississippi river every year. Bad part is you can only shoot one but they go there by the bunches. We usually get some of the action on them late season where we are located so in our pictures we will have one or two a hunt. On sunny days you can see the dark heads and long white necks coming. They usually take there time committing to decoys for a good shot not sky busting, patience is required. Definitely gets the blood going for sure.
