Baled almost 2500 bales this year and this is my last load to sell. Keeping the rest for my cattle. Been buying cattle from people that didn’t have the pasture during the drought and lately from people that can’t afford to buy hay.

It’s going to be tough on people that need hay. Wish I had another 2000 bales.

Just for curiosity's sake, how many acres does it take to grow 2500 bales of hay?

I have close to 1000 acres that is baled for hay. Some years I get more bales per acre, some less. Weather, herbicide, fertilizer all have an effect on production. This year was a low production year.

Not as many as you might think if you get the rain, fertilize and weed kill correctly, and get 4 or 5 cuts off of it.

In good years when we get the moisture it is not at all uncommon for me to get 5-6 bales per acre. Average bale is 5' X 5.5' and weighs 1050-1100 lbs. Mine is native coastal grass.
The problem is, when do we get even average rain down here. Last year I made 0.00 bales total. Thank God I rolled up nearly 200 the year before and kept them all. I counted last night and I'm down to 14 bales and will be out before it greens up no doubt.
