I was setting up for a morning hunt and it turned into an afternoon hunt.

Good stuff. We usually get some groups that land in one of our blind locations. Has a 2 acre food plot but was fallow this year due to untimely rain and they still showed up. Do you just look for areas the birds are patterned to or create areas like wheat fields they will pattern to or are you calling at high birds? Never hunted crane before but always curious given we see them somewhat often

I have one field to hunt on my Deer lease. Some years it is planted in wheat some years it's not, but fields west and north of us usually are in wheat. I'm mostly calling birds that roost near the Brazos to the east of me traveling to fields to the west of me. Some years I have birds, some years I don't. I keep 75 mixed decoys handy during deer season and take breaks from deer hunting if the birds are passing nearby. Right now I'm using less decoys near a couple mud holes because I'm only seeing small groups and from watching birds in fields around me over the years I know those small groups like to spend the day around similar field water holes before they dry up. It's hard hunting, but it's all I got.

If the Brazos is east of you and your nw of graham then your close to my old lease. We were with that rancher from 71 to 96. He retired and his son quite leasing to us. We were a mile from the Brazos.

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

I'm SW of Graham. In the layout this morning but between me shooting them up yesterday and someone on a border field shooting at birds leaving for roost I'm afraid they may fly a different direction this morning. Don't matter. Nice morning for a long nap under the magic pecan tree. Have taken a lot of naps and a lot of game from under this tree over the last 20 years.

I'm on the edge of my field watching cranes do fly bys on my decoys for the last 30 minutes. I should have done an afternoon hunt instead of morning. Especially after yesterday. bang
