Should it be done regularly? Any one know a good company that does it?

Isn’t that why we use and change filters regularly?

We charge ours once a month and never thought about that.

Steamer did ours once and made a huge difference for my wife’s asthma.

Homeowners should beware of “blow-and-go” air duct cleaning companies. These companies often charge a nominal fee and do a poor job of cleaning the heating and cooling system. These companies may also persuade a homeowner to pay for unneeded services with and/or without their permission

If done correctly, I think it can be a worthwhile venture. Problem is, a lot of companies don't do it well, if at all, and rip off their customers. What's the customer gonna do, unhook a duct from the HVAC discharge and run a white glove through? Hardly.

Ok first of all, Stanley Steemer is corporate owned in the DFW area. They actually cut a hole in the blower unit, tape off all vents, clean out returns as run hoses down every vent tube and return tube.

I have zero dust in my 50 year old home.

There ARE scammers out there but Stanley Steemer is NOT one of them.

Wrong again

EPA states: "Duct cleaning has never been shown to actually prevent health problems. Neither do studies conclusively demonstrate that particle (e.g., dust) levels in homes increase because of dirty air ducts or go down after cleaning. "

Trust me on this, yes it will increase slightly due to the broken up particles. Then it will stop all together. I am living this you are posting articles..haha.

Duct cleaning has merit.. How much merit depends on several factors.
The cleaning contractors method.
The supply duct design.
The condition and mantaince of system.
The needs of customer.
How well the return is sealed and located.
How often the filter is changed and how well it fits the filter holder.
The filter type used. (MERVE rating).
I am sure i forgot something.

Each system and application must be reviewed as a unique event.

I have seen 20 year old application that would pass a gray glove.
I have made repairs on 10 year old systems that blew dust out of the supply vents after I disturbed air handler.

That's my unsolicited opinion based on 40+ years HVAC experience.

We have never had it done.
What does it cost for the average two story home these days?

How could it not help. Especially if you have pets. It’s amazing how much dust and hair can collect in places even in a clean house.

I have shown a lot of homes that had dust and just simple discoloration close to the HVAC vents. Maybe if they had been using pleated filters on a regular basis they wouldn't have had the problem ----I don't know. However, homes like that need something, and a duct cleaning couldn't hurt.

I would be concerned on older homes that have the old style flex duct. That crap gets brittle and cracks. I've seen plenty where the homeowner was unknowingly wasting heat and air into the attic. A cleaning system might tear that up. If it happened to be a two story with duct between the floors --- SOL. Later homes with flex duct have a better material than say twenty years ago.

I use 3M pleated filters and so far no discoloration.

Rule 9 seems to be the most abused (by the same folks) yet least enforced rule here.

Pets?

Most my air return/intakes are 20 feet in the air, I have one in my bedroom that is 12 feet high which is the lowest one, I don't see any pet hair getting in there.

I have two air handlers in my attics, I have the 4 inches filters in my units, they last like 6 months on my unit for downstairs and the air handler for upstairs can easily go a year or two but I don't run the upstairs very often, maybe in super cold spell or heat wave.
