Give me your personal experiences, if any, with Statin drugs. My doctor has just suggested that I go on a Statin drug (I don’t yet know which one) for my cholesterol. It would replace the non-statin I’ve been on for years, and his reasoning is that my being borderline on diabetes, the Statin would be better for me in preventing strokes or heart attacks.
As with any drug these days, the list of side effects is long and does not include any side benefits like that little blue pill gives.

I'm totally convinced that a statin started the onset of my Dad's dementia. He died of complications of Alzheimer's not too many years after. Another relative took Lipitor briefly. Memory got bad quickly, body aches & pains, etc. He said no more statins for him. After my dad's experience I read quite a bit on the subject. I don't remember reading much anything good about them. I know others that have been on them without bad side effects. http://www.thincs.org/

One of the listed side effect is fuzzy memory and confusion. I’m leaning toward not taking the statins.

My cardiologist is trying to get me started on cholesterol meds. I read about the side effects and think I don't want to start. Most all meds have potential side effects, but the statins' side effects seem more beyond potential. I'm going to stay away for now. Just a personal choice. I need to discipline myself to lose weight and eat better first. I'd rather treat one or two of my causes, then evaluate the drug route. Not trying to sway you.

I’ve been on fenofibrate for decades. No issues there. But a switch to statins….?

I started taking Rosuvastatin about 2 years ago. So far the only “non-desirable” side effect is it makes my muscles ache a little sometimes until I get them warmed up. It keeps my numbers where they need to be though.

Tried all statins and fenofibrate. After about 4 months joint pain in hips, knees and ankles got to be unbearable. Thought it was time for joint replacement. Stopped taking them and within 10 days i was better. My great grandparents were born in Norway where most have high cholesterol. Weird thing is Chemo for cancer fixed all my blood pressure and cholesterol issues.

Over a period of about two years my doctor put me on one statin after another, until we tried every one out out there. Every one ended up giving me joint and lower back pain. Some after only a few days of starting it, and others after taking it for a few weeks. The knee joint pain was the worst. I would lay in bed at night feeling as though someone had put c-clamps on my knees. I'll just have to live (or die) with high cholesterol.

I've been taking Rosuvastatin for a year and a half now and not have noticed any side effects. Only soreness I notice is after pushing too hard at the gym. I also take Ubiquinol (200 mg) daily to offset depletion of CoQ10.

I started taking Rosuvastatin about 2 years ago. So far the only “non-desirable” side effect is it makes my muscles ache a little sometimes until I get them warmed up. It keeps my numbers where they need to be though. Rosuvastatin (aka Crestor) is what I've been taking for 10 months. My shoulders started bothering me about 2 months ago. Don`t know if it is associated with the Rosuvastatin or just arthritis and old age. I have my yearly wellness checkup in about a month and will discuss with DR. I really did not want to take a Statin, but My Dr. is a high school friend who married my cousin, and I trusted him enough to try them until I felt like the bad outweighed the good. I`m healthy and not overweight @ 64 but my mother and brother both passed from heart attack before 60.

I stopped taking 40mg Simvastatin one year ago after taking it for over fifteen years, I go back to the VA next month and I will compare the results. I quit taking them because of some of the things I read from the THF Dr's and some YouTube video's I'll let you know next month if I made a mistake.

Atorvastatin for years, no problems and my numbers are good. Weight loss and diet would be great but did not work for me.

Try having a TIA....not being able to talk for a while will change you thoughts on statins, diet, and exercise

I’m back on statins. Couldn’t control cholesterol with diet. At 80 yoa, don’t want a heart attack.
I work out and try to diet (turkey bacon) but the Doc says I could walk by a glass of water and my count would go up.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

When I had my heart attack and open heart surgery 2 years ago I was sent home taking 80 mg of Atorvastatin. About 8 mos ago my Dr cut it in half to 40 mg. Some side affects are heartburn and joint pain which I'm experiencing. Another side affect is long term use damages the liver which is why he cut the dosage in half. I do try to watch what I eat but not real hard though.
