My son came in for Christmas. After 24 hours of no electricity, Entergy got the power turned back on. With the missus bustling around in the kitchen getting started on Christmas dinner. There was only one thing to do. Load up the bird dogs and slip off to the woods before the missus found a job for us. Cricket got the first drop. We were exploring and hunting an area for the first time. He is six now and pleasure to walk behind. I was happy to be hunting with my son again. I enjoyed watching him walk in on crickets points. Youth is on his side and it didn’t take long for him to scratch a limit of woodcock over Crickets points. Hunting together again today was a blessing.

We loaded up and changed locations and put Moon on the ground. Moon is a year old. In his first season, I’ve had him on a lot of different birds in a lot of places this year. Moon is blessed with wheels and full of piss and vinegar and pointed three birds for me. He has one pointed in the dog hair thicket about 30 yards in front of his nose in this picture. You better be gassed up and ready to go when you walk in on that.

Very cool ! Woodcock is one bird I have never hunted.
I had a professor at SFA that loved to hunt them.

May I ask, your own property or public ? No location wanted.

It was on private property. Was the professor Monte Whiting? My son is an SFA Graduate.

Yes sir, Monty was the prof. I graduated in '87 from college of Forestry.
What year was your son there, I might know him?
Monty came up to Wyoming and hunted pronghorn with us many years back.

My son graduated in August. The forestry program at SFA is among the best in the country. I met Monty at a scholarship banquet at the college while my son was there. Beautiful campus.

Yes sir. The young dog in the pic above points with a flat tail. The six year old points with a high tail. I got a good picture of Cricket corkscrewed into a point on three legs with my son walking in on the point.
