I have an axis I'd like done as a euro mount. I also have the hide I'd like to have tanned. I'm also a really poor disabled vet.
My questions are. Is a euro something that you would do on your own? I guess what I'm asking is this something that is easily screwed up? This animal is probably a once in lifetime deal for me. The next question is how long can I keep the hide in my freezer before things get sideways. He was shot at about 1730 on the 17th and the hide was in the freezer by 2230 that evening. I could probably come up with the $150-$250 I've seen hide tanning run by mid to late February when tax returns come in. Would this be too long to wait?
Thanks, Bones

A euro mount is a pretty easy DIY project but it can be messed up. Lots of youtube videos on the process and I think the big taxidermy supply houses (McKenzie & VanDyke's) even have how-to videos on their sites.
Not sure where you're located but if you're anywhere around the metro mess, and if this is a once-in-a-lifetime animal, I would reach out to MC TAXIDERMY. Mike is a regular on the forum and does great work. Not sure of his axis price, but I think he's still under $100 for a whitetail.
North Texas tannery charges $70 for a tanned axis hide and does good work. His turn-a-round time is 8 months to a year. He'll take a frozen hide no fleshing or salting required on your part. It your hide is in a deep freezer you've got at least a year to get it to a tannery. If it's in the "frostless" freezer in the top of your refrigerator you've got about 3 months.

Hide is in a chest freezer. I'm down in Killeen. Had seen the North Texas tannery but his prices were unbelievable low so wasn't sure if that could be true. Turn around time is not a big deal. Thanks for your advice.
