well my Lowrance HDS 9 (a replacement from the original HDS9 that bugged out on me a couple years ago) is, well bugging out. I primary use it for navigation but I do have my crappie holes on Fork marked , which I can transfer over to a new unit.....so, what s everyone's opinion on a good, but doesn't have to be the latest and greatest simple unit.

* navigation
* simple gps waypoints for crappie holes is all I care about

Hook Reveal
Elite TI
Elite FS

I think I have 2 HDS 9 units still floating around. Could sell you one. One actually might be in my duck boat still that I use for just navigation when navigating lakes in the pitch black.

But you already have the Lowrance power supply ran in the boat, lowrance is by the far the easiest to use and for the features you are wanting. Not sure if the hook series allows for micro SD cards but it is super nice to have the navionics chip to show your deep waters when running lakes in the pitch black. If you go with a different company, that means new power supply and rewiring (pretty simple) but even more simple would be a plug and play situation and an interface you already know and have run.

Lowrance service post warranty is the absolute worst. That’s the whole reason to go hummingbird. Johnson outdoors is a top notch company.

Have you called Lowrance? I had an HDS 5 or something I can't remember (used for maps and fish finder), it went out, they were going to give me a hook 5 for free (only good for maps), but paid a little more, think $100, got a 9 inch hook. It is only maps but that is all I need it for.

I called them after my original HDI 9 went out. This one was a used replacement I bought 2 years ago. The power button is the culprit on these things, they just go out and quit responding. They said its a dinosaur and no warranty on them. I did solve my short term problem...I took my HDI 7 off the shelf (it goes on the bow when fishing) and put it the console for navigation.

I'm leaning towards Hummingbird after the season though

The Lowrance Ti2 is a great unit. Touchscreen speeds things up and makes it super easy.
