As the title mentions, this is an Texas Blue Indigo snake The Texas Blue Indigo (Drymarchon melanurus erebennus) is a Protected, non-venomous snake native to Texas and portions of Mexico. It is one of the largest snakes in North America. The Blue Indigo its massive size (6-8' in length, though I've seen one very close to 10') and overwhelming strength to kill their pray using brute force and their powerful jaw strength (ie: not a constrictor). They frequently eat rattlesnakes, and we highly endorse that, especially around the house and barn areas! If you see one, count yourself lucky! With the rapid growth in South Texas, 95% of their home range here has been disturbed and threatened, sadly.

I had them on both my places...the biggest ones I saw were in Live Oak county and they were over 8' to 9' but it was many years ago now. I had quite a few in Goliad County and actually saw them on a regular basis. Biggest ones were over 8' and smallest around 3'. I had one around the house that probably 6' long and the biggest on was close to my north fenceline and my neighbors house. I know they were raising new ones on a regular basis. I had bull snakes also and only killed or saw one rattlesnake total on that place in 9 years due to them being there. The largest Indigo I saw in person was on the Medio Creek bottom in northern Bee County back in 1970 or so. It was as far down in a hole in the creek bank as its body size would go and still had over half of its body out of the hole...that part was over 5' long...so it was over 10' and it was as big around as my calf on my below my knee. I guess it was after a frog or snake or ??? By far the biggest one.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Good snake to have around. Used to see them in McMullen County when we hunted there. They get quite big.

Saw one of those out by Plainview some years back. My son was behind me and I heard “Snake!” and he passed me in the air. It was a 6-footer. Beautiful snake.

I had never seen one until last year when quail hunting in south Tx. We ran over it stretched out on the blacktop. Didn’t seem to be hurt. We pulled over and watched it crawl off. I guessed it was 7’ long and was as big as my forearm.
