I am heading out Thursday to hunt Fri-Sun at a ranch between Laredo and Freer. Was curious when the rut usually happens there? I hunt south of SA ever year and its usually end of Nov first week of Dec. I have never been this far South hunting in Texas and was hoping some of yall could chime in and provide somem input when the Rut usually takes place in this area. I am hoping I can catch at least some activity and hopefully get some of those big South Texas Bucks on their feet. Thanks in advance.

Ill let other experts chime in, but you should be in great shape. It should be in the early stages and they should really be looking hard.

Appreciate it. Was hoping that would be the case. I have done some research and have read from first of December to middle of January. Was hoping yall with more experience with that area would chime in.

Around Christmas usually but I suspect this year it will be earlier.
I know where we are at in LaSalle county they were already splitting up 2 weeks ago and starting to make rubs and scrapes and that pretty early for there. Haven't been back yet but from the pics I'm getting they are already getting after it which is about a week earlier than normal

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Well I am liking what I am hearing so far. Maybe I can catch one of the big mature guys on their feet.

I have been pretty successful south of SA and around Wichita falls rattling in deer, hopefully I can catch this at the right time for that as well.

Rattling should be good timing I would think.

From what I'm seeing, it's about 2-3 weeks earlier than normal this year, some pretty good stuff started last week.

I just came back from hunting a ranch between Tilden and Freer a week ago and rut was just beginning to rear its head.

Maybe I can catch it at a halfway decent time. Havent been any mature deer sigthed in about 3 weeks. Hoping the rut gets them up and moving. Said they have seen a lot of really good 3.5-4.5 year old deer, but nothing older lately.

Webb County today and only saw a couple of young bucks surrounded by lots of does and no chasing at all.

Just got back from my 4th trip to my Friends place in LaSalle cnty.

No luck on the first 3 trips due to being late on getting the feeders repaired & setting up the timers.

Got there Tuesday afternoon. Started for the old tripod stand. I was climbing into & just getting seated when a Buck came walking towards me, I didn’t even have time to put on my earmuffs!

I froze & he walked within 25 feet of me. So I took a shot at & I must have just shot over his back.

He ran about 10 yards behind a Mesquite tree & I made a grunting sound to stop him.

He stopped & I put one in him & he took off I thought I missed him but he only ran about 20 yards!

Wednesday morning just before daylight I was back in the tripod stand when another good size buck started walking away from the feeder showing me his back side.

I whistled & he turned to give me a perfect neck/spine shot. I hit him perfect, he just hit the ground where he stood.

All in all it turned out to be a good trip. Unfortunately my friend has sold the land.. so it was my last trip down to Lasalle to hunt.

I’ll try to add pictures later, has to take the lovely wife out to dinner!

Just got back from Webb County near Bruni yesterday morning. In two days all I saw were plenty of doe’s and a couple of young bucks. Didn’t see anything chasing. Not sure if I missed the rut or it still hasn’t kicked off in that area.

Just got back from La Salle County. Killed a nice 10 pt cull, old deer with short tines. There is still a little action but not much. After this last freeze, they are hitting the corn pretty hard now.
