curious to see/hear about some of your favorite guns you take to the field other than your main hunting gun. I like to take my very impractical but fun as heck Howa 450 bushmaster, shooting hornady 395 grn subs. Something about the pause between pulling trigger and then the audible smack of the bullet impact a second later.Always imagine I'm shooting a grenade launcher. My nostalgic gun would be my uncles old marlin 30-30(complete with tasco 4x32 scope),he passed away last year and I inherited it. Lots of memories from hunting trips over the years with him and this was his one and only rifle.
I've seen M1 mentioned a couple times. Mine is a workhorse year round and a sweet shooter out to 600 yards. It goes with me on nearly every trip to the ranch. For me the most impractical (yet still fun) rifle is the AR-15 in .223 caliber. Such a dinky little cartridge.

Impractical? Don't really own one. I have 2 un-scoped lever actions. One in 45/70, the other in 357 mag. They are both very practical when still hunting thick woods. I guess that's about as close as I get as they are Impractical sendero rifles.
Numbers matching Colt SSA in 45LC. Built in 1890. WInchester 94 in 44-40. Built in 1906. Shot a hog with the 44-40. Both stay in the safe most of the time.
For fun and impractical, Carcano carbines. Cheap to buy, fun, low recoil, with a big muzzle blast, if only ammo were cheaper. My Carcanos are from Italian police stockpile, not a rusty RTI.
I don't think I have an impractical one, but my most nostalgic one is my great-grandpa's 1936 Savage 99 in 300 Savage or his 1936 Browning Auto-5. He was killed in the Texas City Disaster in 1947. He was one of the Texas City volunteer fire fighters killed fighting the fire. Even though my dad never met, much less me, I always think about him when I use his firearms.
On a side note, I shoot his Auto-5 better than any other shotgun I've ever shot. I guess it just fits me well.
110 year old Winchester Model 12 in 20 ga. It shoot 2.5" shells. Per series number it was manufactured in 1913. I have to special order shells from poly wad in Atlanta, GA. It's pretty cool shooting doves with.

Taking game with something that old is about as cool as it gets. I’m fortunate to have a few old ones that have been passed down in my family that I absolutely cherish. One of those was my great grandfathers model 12 20 ga that was made 5 years after yours.

My impractical gun is my Mosin Nagant, fun to shoot the cheap ammo from and maybe hit the target. Vasily Zietsev would not like it much.. Fun gun is the Winchester 1892 chambered in 357 mag.
