Got a couple pics this morning of a buck with some blood on his antlers. Obviously, he's a scrapper and busted up pretty good, but still very submissive around the other bucks. Is that possibly his blood, or that of his sparring partner? Or something else?

If he was bleeding I’d think it would be in his face, but his antlers may not of 100% hardened at his age also

The hard antler itself does not bleed but damage to the base can cause bleeding. More likely that blood is from him or another buck and good chance if it is his it is from a wound caused not on the antler itself but near the base from another buck. Odds are he will be fine next year without ill effects, if it is damage to the pedicle that side will most likely never be right in the future. Being that the antler is still there I bet he will will not be damaged in the future

Thanks, gents. I was wondering as it appears the blood is concentrated around where the points and beams are broken. No telling, it seems.

I just returned to Korea from a couple weeks at our place in Hall County. Nov 15-30 is always high adventure in the panhandle with a later rut than most places. The pics are from my RidgeTec cell cam.

If he broke the pedicle it will bleed, antlers will not bleed at this time of the year.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^

Most likely has some pedicle damage

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Agree. And, will be interesting to see if it's permanent damage and what impact that has on next years new antlers. I've seen this cause 'double main beams' in future years.

Thanks again, y'all. We don't always see the same bucks year to year, but I'm looking forward to seeing if he makes it (he's obviously a scrapper but pretty defenseless now) and what his next set looks like. up

I have yet to see a full-on buck fight in person. I've seen them on tv of course, but it has to be something to watch one in person!

Rut equals fighting this time of the year. Broken antlers inflict a lot of damage to the other buck since they are not balanced in a fight. My guess is that is blood from a gouged out eye or possibly from an ear rip on the other buck.

Yessir, agreed. Haven't seen any injured bucks on camera yet, but I'm definitely looking. Thanks.
