The defense stated her gun had an illuminated green laser on the front rail that was pointed right at him so that seems hard not to see.

I hadn’t kept up either. But it seems manslaughter at the most. He didn’t go there to kill her. Now, he killed her, but sounds like he did it recklessly.

The nephew who was there during the shooting had previously stated to a forensic child interviewer that she pointed the gun at him. He testified today that she didn’t point the gun at him and someone was ejected from the courtroom for giving him hand signals during the question. Wow!

A bad one I remember is a poor florist in oak Cliff had been broken into 3 times. Alarm goes off, he gets there to check it out. Not thinking the police would be there for hours.

A trainer and his rookie show up. Trainer sends his rookie to the back where he sees a guy, the owner with a shotgun. He shoots and kills him. Young kid right out of the academy. Still remember his name, Vincent Reetz.
Not indicted, but fired.

Per report I read it said the child said previous that she raised the gun a little “She just held it next to her side, she just like, she didn’t point it up, she just kept it next to her,” he told prosecutors, who said the child previously said his aunt had pulled the gun up “a little bit.”

What media is reporting the child reported she pointed the gun at the officer?

Aaron Dean was snooping around the property. He did not announce himself as a "police officer". I would have been pointing my gun through the window at an individual dressed in dark clothing too.

One might not want to announce "police officer" if you think there may be burglars or home invaders inside of the house. You might want to walk around quietly to see what is going on inside first. Is a burglary taking place? Is there a home invasion taking place? Does someone inside have a gun to their head while a home invader is demanding to know where the money is?

I don't blame her for pointing her gun at what she thinks might be a prowler. She is protecting herself, nephew and her property.

Dean has a difficult choice. Assuming he believes he is about to be shot by someone (unknown if burglar, home invader, home owner), he either gets shot or fires a shot to protect himself or his partner from getting shot.

It seems to be a tragic deal all the way around.

I remember seeing it or the partner's a few years back and he seemed really quick with that trigger finger, so much so think I recall the partner was seemingly startled by the shot or said something to the effect that it went down very quickly. Thinking it doesn't go well for Mr. Dean from what I recalled. Hope blind justice is served and accepted by all sides of the equation.
