Not talking about Jaguar underwear...

I want to know who here has seen a jaguarundi in person. We've had a few sightings in South Texas. I saw one and watched it for about 25-30 seconds. Cool critters!

For those unfamiliar:

"The jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi) is a wild cat native to the Americas. Its range extends from central Argentina in the south to northern Mexico, through Central and South America east of the Andes. The jaguarundi is a medium-sized cat of slender build. Its coloration is uniform with two color morphs, gray and red. It has an elongated body, with relatively short legs, a small, narrow head"

I've got a game camera video of a cat that looks similar to that. I don't know how to post it here or I would. Came from Andrews/Gaines County line.

According to TP&W they are extinct in Texas. Last confirmed sighting was 1986. That’s why Jaguarundi photos in this state are as bad of quality as our Big Foots.

I'm not saying that's what's on my video, but since I don't believe there is such a thing as a black panther, I'm guessing jaguarundi.

March of 2020 I was sitting in a blind at the Thompson Ranch near Crystal City, Texas. It was the gloaming, but enough light too see a couple hundred yards. I was watching a sendero for pigs when I saw a dark form with a long tail slink cat like across the sendero. I swore to myself it was a Jaguarundi.

My wife says she saw one crossing DeZavala road in San Antonio, 25+ years ago. We argue about it to this day.

Here's a pic from my video. It's not on our mule deer ranch, but the neighbor to the North.

I saw a dead one in Brazil about 40 year ago. A farmer had shot it. Saw a Jaguar as well.

Damn I would have said you were crazy with the location. Not sure I’d want to bet against that picture

The very long tail is a strong indicator.

JG, I'm betting Lion from this pic???

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

It very well could be a lion, I'm really not sure. The darker color told me it isn't but I've never seen one in real life so I don't know.

Very well may have been. The one we saw in Duval in the 90's crossed a fence line and ranch road in front of us, only visible 10-12 seconds but there was no mistaking what it was, was no house cat.

Juvenile ML are spotted but not that dark. It’s either darkest juvenile ML on record or the furthest north jaguarundi

I don’t know what it is but it was taken in STX it would be reasonable assumption to call it a jaguarundi

I sent it to our biologist we work with on our mule deer place to see what he says. As I mentioned there is a short video but I don't know how to post it.

a few years back, I saw "something" that looked like a mountain lion, but was way too small. I first thought maybe a coon but the tail was way too long. This was about 40 miles southwest from Ozona, about 40 miles north of the Mexico border. It was dusk, came out to the feeder about 125 yards away for a few minutes ... but it was getting too dark to tell for sure what it was.

95% positive jeffbird works on the Projects in STX for jaguarundi. He can also tell you the good and bad of what happens if it is an ESA protected jaguarundi
