I weigh every deer we kill on the hoof, guts in. A good size Doe is going to be 100-105# A mature buck will be 170-185#. What is everyone else seeing around the state on weights? Not the biggest ever, but a top end average.

Normal years Mature 5.5+ bucks go 135-155 dressed(depending on month) . This year our biggest is 135 dressed. Think we have only killed two does this year.

On our S.E. Louisiana pine plantation lease we weigh every deer on the hoof.
Mature does will range from 90 to 120 lbs. with most around 105 lbs.
The average weight of our 2.5-year-old bucks is around 140 lbs. Those over 2.5 years usually range around 165 to 185 lbs.
The heaviest buck we've taken over the last 25 years was a 206 lb. six-year-old. He was a heavy horned six point.

Two bucks we’ve killed this year in Milam County weighed 130, and 140 field dressed. Had one Doe go 100 field dressed. Largest one we have killed was a few years back that went 150 field dressed.

Ive never been involved with an "intensive" management program but Im pretty sure its very common with any quality management program to record and track all weights as field dressed(gutted.) Most any program with a biologist or a quoted study would refer to field dressed. Not implying anything wrong with weighing live. Protein fed deer and any well managed place should have higher weights. On most lease Ive been on over the years they were somewhat managed but not intensively and no protein fed. On those leases it would average from 120 to 160 and as Bobo said, it can vary greatly depending on the time of year killed(rut is tough of bucks.)

My places in east Texas the bucks have been 175-190 lb live weight. Guts are usually 45-50 lbs.

Since I've just about 100% gone to gutless method, our most recent weights are live. On my place, a mature whitetail doe will run 150 lbs live, and a mature buck will go about 225-240 live. An exceptional buck may push 250.
For our mule deer, I've only shot 4 does and their dressed weight averages about 130. That obviously makes them a bit heavier than their whitetail counterparts on the hoof.

Panhandle, sir. They grow 'em big up there. I have a scale in the cleaning shed and I try to weigh every deer. By contrast, the cull I shot this year was only 180 on the hoof.

I’m familiar with those big Panhandle bodies. In about 92ish we were the first to hunt a 50k acre Ranch in Cottle where two branches of the Pease came together. That’s not quite Panhandle so maybe that’s why we felt there were two different subspecies or strains(?) of WT there. Some bodies appeared Texas normal and others were a lot bigger.

Quite possible...confluence of Texas deer and the bigger midwestern-sized deer in that area. I know my place also has some hybrid genetics. It's pretty weird when you see a gray, stocky whitetail. Short body, short legs, thick, huge ears, and jacked up rack. I've been watching a hybrid doe fawn this year, but really weird situation as she was hanging with and even nursed from what looked like a 100% whitetail doe. Additionally, it's usually the WT buck that breeds a muley doe, not the other way around, so I'm not really sure what's going on there.

I need to start carrying a scale to use on the game hoist I use on my Ranger. Shot the one hanging this year and got 110 lbs of packaged meat back from processor. The other one shot last year had a rack weight of 137 lbs. Thats skinned, no head, cut at the knees, just the hanging carcass. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-53199-372653-img_0688.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-53199-372654-img_0689.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-53199-372655-1_buck.png) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-53199-372656-2buck.png) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-53199-372657-3buck.png) When I can't hunt the panhandle I'll probably quit hunting.

170 - 180 is typical for bucks and 95 - 105 for does. This year our bucks are running 25 - 30 pounds lighter than normal even with us feeding protein. Just a super dry year at our place.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.
