Uh . . . DO NOT shoot a shotgun threaded for screw in chokes without a choke tube in place. If you don't want any degree of choke, buy a cylinder bore tube and install that. OK good advice guys. I will leave that choke in for now and try to get a new one online. Thanks fellas I had no idea. I am a rookie to shotguns for sure.

I need some advice here guys. So I went and shot my 12 ga today for the first time and shot both 00 buck and slugs. I had some accuracy issues for sure with the nonadjustable sights. This gun shoots high and left when I line it up. Do I just have to accommodate for that when hunting or is there something i can do to get this thing a little better on target. I shot 00 buck at 17 to 20 yards and at that distance it was about 6 to 8 inches high and 4 inches left. (2nd pic) I shot the slugs at 25 (1st pic) and 50 (3rd pic) yards and at 25 yards it was about 4 inches high and 4 inches left but very accurate. My 2nd 3 shot group were all touching and I was very pleased with both 3 shot groups. The 50 yarder was 8 inches high and 12 inches left approximately. Not as good of group but I was playing around a little with the sights in different positions to see if it would make a difference so it wasn't a true grouping as I was moving my aimpoint around a little. Shooting low right was the only way. I was aiming at the very bottom right corner of the paper at the 50 for the most part. Do I have to live with this or is there something I can do? By the way my shoulder is sore after 3 boxes of 1600 fps shells. LOL thanks fellas

I'd say that's pretty acceptable with buckshot. You might could tweak slugs a bit but knowing where everything is hitting is a darn good start. I grew up in Virginia and most of the counties werre buckshot only, some places I hunted 25 yards was all you were getting visibility to. When hunting with buckshot your just trying (praying) you get a minimum of two pellets in the vitals.

Seems to be working for you. They do sell sights that clamp on the rib of a barrel. Even without them a pig would be in peril. Seems both slugs and buckshot are off a bit in the same direction. Might be worth moving the rib to line up with the point of impact.

If the sights are fixed then you bend the barrel. Find a forked tree and go easy.

You can try this (add a picatinny rail/attached ATN 4K pro 3x14 to mossberg 500)...it helped with accuracy but not with the sore shoulder. I did use IC choke like some recommended. I think if your in a 4-5inch group after 10 rounds your good.

I had to do it. I dont get the opportunity to hunt much so I had to go get this Turkish AR12. Just got back from the range and I still have some kinks to work out on it. A hex bolt came loose that holds the upper and lower together and this is a tool I do not have. I had to cut my range session short because of it. I've got it on paper at 50 yards but accuracy was fair. I just need to try a few different brands and types to see which one is best in that gun. The trigger is about 11 lbs so it is a tough pull. Buckshot looked good on paper at 18 yards so no worries there and it was easy to double tap the buck shot and keep it on target. I did have some failure to extract on both the 5 round and 10 round magazines. I just plan on shooting this thing till I figure out what it likes. Much more confident now than with my other gun. I shot it today with my 1-8 but I may just try one of my single red dots next time. I really want to be able to stretch this out to 75 yards so with my eyes I probably need the magnification but we will see what happens on my next range visit with the 1X red dot. Pleasure to shoot. No sore shoulder whatsoever.

I'd be happy with fair accuracy out of non dedicated (non rifled barrel) shotgun. If your grouping in the 3 to four inch range that's pretty darn good. Also, though some may disagree with me, dropping down to a smaller shot size like 1 buck or 4 buck may help get more pellets into the vitals. 4 buck was actually my favorite when running dogs on deer in the tidewater of Virginia.

I may try that bones thanks. I want to be picky and have a lot to choose from but I am stuck with what cabelas and the acadamy near my house has in stock at the time I go. I do like the idea of the 1 buck. Big pellets make big holes although I am not impressed with the distances that buckshot offers. I am off Wednesday so I will go see what the stores have in stock and hit the range again. I've got 4 weeks to make sure this gun is perfect.
I am a still thinking slugs are the way to go just because it increases the range by 20 to 30 yards. Which could make a huge difference in the number of kills.

Yeah with buckshot you should limit yourself to 30 yards or less it ain't long range stuff but effective. Slugs are definitely the way to go for bang/flop effect out to 75 yards or so. I hear you on the picky thing and am in the same shoes and limited in what I can get too.
I get the big pellet big hole dynamic and usually I'm with the mainstream on this. But barring hydrostatic shock that shotgun pellets don't really carry, animals die from exsanguination, pellet diameter for a wound channel doesn't really trump two wound channels. More pellets just offer the chance at more in the boiler room.
I've seen Academy here carry TT shot and F shot in bismuth coyote rounds. It translates into buckshot in lead. I have no clue why they kept the steel shot/waterfowl load designation.

Slug as your 1st shot then 00 Buckshot for the follow up shots.

Common lead buckshot will flatten out and not penetrate. Tungsten is another story. It does not deform. It cracks breaks through bone and penetrates. Check with super18tungstenshot or apex.

3" - 00 Buckshot works every time. These three were all killed with buckshot. We had about 5 more we killed that weekend. Def my favorite way to hunt. This hunt I was using my good ol Remington 870 12-gauge. No modifications, almost straight from the factory.
