I'm an outsider so take my comment with a grain of salt. My impression was that feral pigs are a big problem in Texas. Based on that i would just assume kill sows first and after that just kill everything whenever it shows up. Also under the impression that those young ones are better eating. So i guess knowing nothing really my gut says pull the trigger on everything and never let anything walk where pigs are concerned. See, even our favorite Canuck gets it. Hirogen, I'll trade you all the pigs you want for one bear, elk, or moose. Edited to add, 2 Molson's.

I stopped killing all hogs and having carcasses laying all over my place because I found a large increase in the coyote population when doing this. Coyotes kill fawns so now the pigs get a pass unless I want one for the smoker. You could do what we do. Kill all pigs, then hunt the coyotes over the pig carcasses. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^EXACTLY^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Stack em up at one or two places on the ranch and if the coyotes are eating em like poster said they are, then get the AR out and light those coyotes up! Seems to me that would be the smart move and eliminate two major pain in the azz animals that no ranch should want on it! And those who believe hogs are not hell on livestock hasn't seen what they can do to a goat herd when they are kidding out!
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

This and I also believe hogs are a significantly bigger threat to native game species (especially turkeys and quail who lay eggs on the ground) than coyotes are. If it was one or the other, I'll take coyotes killing fawns and keeping deer numbers in check over pigs decimating turkey/quail nests, turning up fields, rutting up roads, etc any day of the week.

Just me- every opening general season weekend I've ever hunted, there's always always someone popping off "boredom " shots or doing pistol magazine dumps around 9-10-11 AM Shooting dirt clods or armadillos or cactus pads or whatever they shoot at. This has never changed in all the years I've hunted. I can't understand the hesitation in shooting any coyotes or hogs or any other pest that presents as a target of opportunity. The places I've hunted at all the "boredom " shots and magazine dumps that people in the area do doesn't "spoil" the hunting, and people don't pack up and leave and go home

When I see multiple pigs, I always shoot the one most capable of reproducing at that point in time.

No pass on pigs. They get shot. Yup! I snare, trap and shoot (day and night). Two buds and I have taken close to 500 pigs off our Reagan Wells lease since July of 2018. I have noticed a significant decrease in the numbers I am seeing now that i have erected 30' x 30' pens around my feeders. I can see both pens from the same blind. I put these two pens up in a new spot in the spring of this year. I've set out at least a dozen different occasaions, as late as midnight with my thermal. At the rectangular pen, which I put up before I added the feeder I've not seen a hog at all, and at the hexagonal pen, none since about a month after I put up the pen. At my feeders with no pens, I perforate hoglets just about every time I sit at night, and have game cam pix of hogs every night. ya! GB

Would love to do that except the 3 species you covet require non-residents to use a licensed guide - which i am not. Could legally offer the Molson's (and to keep it American i would also provide some Maker's Mark) and all the walleye ice fishing you want (heated hut of course) plus we could rip around on 1000s of miles of snowmobile trail (I have 2x 900cc machines, so no 2up - you get your own) Hell you want to go real hardcore we snowmobile 50 miles into some back lakes and winter camp for ice walleye (still a heated hut). I have all the gear to make it comfortable.

Didn’t read the whole thread but not ever letting one walk. Honestly, I no longer even enjoy hunting(shooting) them, disposing of them is just work. But i know it’s the right thing to do even though probably not going to change things much.

I dont kill the real small ones. The coyotes need something easy to eat rather than deer fawns. Coyotes will eat whatever is too slow to get out of the way. Piglets or fawns or pet cats or prize chickens or baby geese or whatever. They're animals and don't have human logic Just like feral hogs do

No pass on pigs. They get shot. Yup! I snare, trap and shoot (day and night). Two buds and I have taken close to 500 pigs off our Reagan Wells lease since July of 2018. Yes, you must kill 100s, by every means that you can. I hunted the southern end of our deer lease, an area of about 1000 acres. We killed about 100 pigs a year every year for about 3-4 years. This slowed to being a steady flow of about 40 a year. They just keep coming. We would trap, hunt, and run them down. A few years after we left the lease, we constantly hear of their pig problem. They claim they kill every pig they see while hunting the same area, maybe 10-12 a year. They have no clue what it takes to control them. Now they have 20 pigs at a time ambush a feeder. They complain but do nothing extra to eliminate them. Killing every pig that you see while hunting in deer season is not controlling them. But still, shoot everyone that you see.

For those not familiar with Sus Scrofa, I tell the following anecdote.......
Feral swine can breed at six months of age. They can have up to 3 litters a year, and up to 13 piglets per litter. Out of those 13, at least 16 survive.

Well this thread is a bit more encouraging than our last hog debate. https://texashuntingforum.com/forum...-you-miss-feral-pigs-if-they-disappearedThe bottom line is that the hogs are not indigenous and have caused nearly irreparable harm to our economy and ecosystem. They are a scourge and should be eradicated from the landscape. I would not miss a single one. The only good news is that since the Great Freeze, my hog sightings, even on camera, are WAY down. I wish Texas would get serious about getting rid of the hogs like Alberta did.

All of us let the young bucks walk (unless you live in east Texas) (only kidding) but what do y’all think about letting young boars walk? Call me crazy but I’ve started doing this. Killing a bruiser male hog is awesome. Really enjoy getting the tusks out and mounting them. But if we let the small boars walk and focus on killing sows, then we have more opportunities at trophy boars and prob do a better job of keeping the pig population down by focusing on killing the sows. What think ye? This is assuming there’s only one hog at the feeder and it’s an adolescent male. Do you take the shot or no? Got any pics of your tusk mounts? I would like to see how you display them.
