Killed my biggest deer to date so far. Caught him chasing two does across a hay field. With that said, does anyone think this is the same deer and maybe declined a little bit because of the drought this year? It would put him around 7 1/2 yrs old. He had the biggest body I’ve seen on a deer in person. Absolute tank

Nice buck!

I’m leaning towards a different deer. Tines can change year over year but I’ve rarely seen the angle of the MBs change on mature bucks. Might be the angle of the pic and how you are holding him, but he looks like a much flatter beamed buck vs the one in the game cam pic.

Agree with this, your harvest has a little sticker off the left mainbeam after the G1 if I'm seeing correctly that I don't see in those prior pics. Not saying it couldn't be but could also be any other number of bucks as well. Identifying deer across years, years is very hard absent a very defining characteristic like a split ear and additional identifiers actually. Nice buck regardless.

Nice buck either way. The last year pictures don't look to show the double throat patch that the buck you shot has. It might just be the difference in night and daytime pictures. Congratulations.

Nice deer. Whether it's the same deer or not, I don't know. I suspect it would have been bigger without the drought. It happens. Deer can also lose testosterone as they age (just like us), and racks can get smaller later in life.

I would agree with it being the same deer. We have a deer that is mature, and he was bigger last year than this year with horns and body size. If he is truly 7.5 years old, he may be on the down slope anyways. Beautiful deer. salute

Thanks guys! I was just curious. The deer in the trail cam pictures I thought was shot last year and I hadn’t gotten any pictures of him so far this year. Either way I’m excited. He’s at the taxidermy now 🦌

Great buck, congrats!

I would lean towards a different buck myself.
