Interesting video on the feral cat epidemic in Australia and some colorful folks that hunt them.

Any of you guys had to deal with feral cat problems? Caused me a bunch of issues at a rental house and was very glad to get them exterminated.

Feral cats, pigs, aoudad etc. don't belong in wild Texas.

We used to have quite a few feral cats. Coyotes have taken care of that. Maybe the Aussies need some of our coyotes. Probably wouldn't be hard to trap a few breeders from here and ship them there.

Aussie feral cats (all 18 million of 'em) are suspected of killing up to 75 million small marsupials PER NIGHT!
Army uses them for marksmanship

My grandpa had a feral cat problem at his place in Michigan, they were hammering the game birds on the farm. He went to war with those things. The first time I saw him jump out of the truck and pop one I was like 10yr old and my eyes were probably as big as saucers when he did it. Then he explained what was happening and then joined in on the fun.

I can’t stand them. Our neighbor lady next door growing up got some kind of African cat that she let roam the neighborhood. Wasn’t long before cats were everywhere. You’d turn down the alley at night and all you would see were eyes glowing in the headlights. Weird looking cats with hind legs much bigger than their front. Always ripping into the trash bags making my life heck. People that live in the city shouldn’t be allowed to let their cats roam around at night. A farm cat is a different story as they serve a purpose.

Ideally a neutered or spayed one.

They have Dingos.

Dingos must be a bunch of [censored] if they can't handle a feral cat.

I would bet it was a Manx cat from the Isle of Man, it is between Ireland and the UK. We had one when I was a kid and it was Squirrel killing machine. The back legs were longer than the front and it hopped like a rabbit at times, it also had a bobbed tail.

I looked up Manx Cat, but these things were solid black and did have tails. And they could jump. I chased one around the house and it cleared our 6’ fence only barely touching the top on its way over.

“Greg… those damn cats got in the trash again… go clean it up!” Man I hated those bastards bang

You bring up a good question. Do coyotes really help control a feral cat population?

With your experience was it coyotes or something else? Like was their any evidence?

I think a coyote would be weak from starvation relying on cat for chow...

There are feral cats in the woods at my place in east Texas. I occasionally see them. I’m guessing they keep the rat population in check which keeps the snake population in check.

But I generally don’t like cats. I had one spray on my door mat once and I didn’t realize it till I had tracked it in the house. Nothing stinks worse than a cat.

Interesting video. Found it odd that the one guy uses a 180 grain bullet, seems like overkill to me?

They also have a mouse problem. I believe I'd rather have too many cats than mice if I had to make a choice. Too many mice means more snakes and Australia has some bad dudes.

Thanks for information, I went and looked at African Cats. Dang they have quite a few smaller cats that I had never heard of. It might be time to get a few HAVAHART traps and get busy.
