Seeing little Rut activity about 20 miles east of Sonora this past week (Sutton County). Anyone else hunt that direction seeing any Rut activity? We are also seeing a decline in antler growth. Assuming the drought last year in that area played a big part?

Antler size is down a little and body weight is down dramatically this year for us. Rut seems to be running a bit late as well. They're usually chasing hard by the second or third weekend of rifle season and I hadn't seen any until Thanksgiving weekend.

I am in east Val Verde and the rut usually starts around now for us. I was there last weekend and the younger deer were starting to chase.

On my place in Leon on county a couple of young bucks were running does very hard one afternoon during youth weekend, but that’s been it.
We didn’t see any running in Coleman county.

We are past the peak in Tom Green, but there are still some doe cycling in. And that puts them in high demand. Looks like it is going to warm up this weekend, so most activity will be after dark. And yes, unless you were feeding last winter and this past summer, antler development is down. And we are seeing a lot of breakage!

The rut is still on here. Had 3 doe eating grass near me Tuesday evening, when along came a young buck (6 point). They took off like a rocket, with the buck right behind them. Looked like Pepe Le Pew chasing potential girlfriends.

And the yard camera shows bucks every night, in the wee hours, looking around the feeder for the ladies.

In Coleman county they are hitting the protein harder than the corn, I get pictures of does during the day and young bucks at night, no shooter bucks have showed up to the protein feeder.
I’m wondering if the rut was earlier or going to be later this year?

I didn’t make it up until the week before thanksgiving, we did take a nice buck that was on the move and neck was swollen, but didn’t see any chasing.
My bunch did do some bow hunting but didn’t see much rut activity.

They were chasing hard in Kimble county two weekends ago. The buck I shot stunk to high heavens. I of course let him finish his business before it was lights out!

Two plus weeks ago was heavy on my lease. Success rattling and lots of chasing. Peak is history but a few will come in heat through the rest of season.

I feel like they were rutting last week of October up until the 19th of November in North Texas. Not seeing much chasing now.

I feel like it peaked between November 9 and the 14th, here on my place. The bucks are starting to come to feed more now, and I have actually seen a couple younger guys grouped up.

Just seen 2 bucks running a doe in Leon county.
That’s the first chasing since youth weekend

You may have missed the rut but the deer didn’t.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Same here in Stephens County. The bucks seem to be running back in their old groups. Eating with the does and little chasing going on. Have stopped seeing any new bucks.

I was surprised Saturday morning in Southwest Haskell county. Saw 3 bucks chasing a couple does back in the trees behind the feeder. 1 of the bucks looked good but the other 2 were a spike and little 4 point.

I saw bucks cruising for ladies this past cool weekend in SW Young county. The nice buck was circling feeder pen and pissing every 30 yards or so and rubbing some trees. Saw another young buck chasing hard. I do believe the secondary rut is starting up on young doe cycling. Should be good hunting from here on out.

I am pretty sure the rut ended around noon this past Saturday at our place in Kimble county. I watched bucks run around with their noses to the ground like birds dogs on a covey of quail Saturday morning and by our afternoon sit, they could not care less about a doe or chasing anymore.

I have never witnessed such a change of mood in such a short amount of time before. The two cull we took had been done for what seemed like a while now. No smelly, black hocks and no swollen necks, but they were run down and semi poor looking. I am assuming they had a very busy season getting "busy"!

I hunt the same area (but, I'm new to hunting this part of the state). I did a search on here to see who else who didn't see much of a rut. There was some chasing, but nothing real defined. I also saw a lot of bucks with not much mass and/or length. And I was surprised at how many broken tines I saw.

The rut has definitely cooled off here at my place in Pipe Creek.
