I think we just had an earthquake. Our whole house just shook like for half a minute.
It kinda felt like a monster truck was running us over, house and all.
Last time anything like this happened it turned out to be an earthquake up in Alaska.
This just happened. Maybe five minutes ago. I was online typing a resonse to a post when it happened.
I went upstairs to see if a vehical had hit the house but on the way up I realized there is no way it was that. We are on a side road that no one goes down and besides, th house is off to one side of the road and the road is too short for a vehicle to get up enough speed to even reach the house after going through the ditch that borders the road.
My hands are shaking.
Somewhere there is a lot of hurting people right now.

If we felt it and heard it it was a big one. If it was an earthquake.

It appears you were hit by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake according to Reuters. There is just the breaking news line no details.

I didn't think we could have an earthquake here. We are no where near a fault line as far as I know.
I assumed that it must have been up in Alaska or down in Vancouver so for us to not only feel it but for it to shake things so hard we heard it too, I figured it had to be way bigger then the 1986 Alaska earthquake.
That year people around me felt it but I felt nothing. And no one heard anything unusual. II for sure heard the house shaking this time. Now I know why.
Yikes!

I was 20 miles away from the epicenter of this one when it hit a couple of weeks ago. I was in my truck when it hit. It wasn’t very eventful. I wish I would have been standing on the ground to feel it better. I am a geophysicist and did a lot of research on earthquakes in college and this sort of thing fascinates me.

Prayers up for this situation - I hope you and yours are safe and sound...did the owl ride it out in the chair? The owl moved away about eight months ago. As far as I know everyone here is fine. One of my sisters lives just 30 miles from the epicenter. I talked to her half an hour after the last tremor. Everyone there is fine, and no damage done, but their dogs and cows are pretty freaked out.

I find it pretty interesting too. This one was no where near as dramatic as some. No swaying lights or anything like that. It felt a lot like standing on a bridge as a big truck crosses it. And sounded about the same. At first I thought something had hit the house but then realized it lasted far too long for that to be the cause. This quake had several tremors, several small ones and two larger ones, One large one at 4:47pm that measured 5.3 and a larger one at 5:59pm that measured 5.7 We only felt the 5.7 tremor

Our house shook like that once when I was a kid. Turned out to be a meth lab blowing up.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I wonder if this is associated with the twin eruptions of the volcanoes Mauna Loa and Kilauea on Hawaii's Big Island. Could be we are in for some big events in the next few weeks or months.

According to the blue people all earthquakes since the beginning of time have been caused by evil fracking, Trump and ARs.

I was in Socal in the early 90s and got my taste of them....the landers/big bear was a 7.3 magnitude and we were less than 30 miles away. That one in particular played hell on the mountain roads because all the rock that was shifted around.

I was at a buddy's house years ago, we drank a few too many. It was an old farmhouse. I was on the 2nd floor guest room and the house started to shake. I laid on the floor to really feel it and then ran downstairs to tell everyone. It turns out his washing machine was out of balance. We laughed about that one for years!!

My wife and I were woke up by one when in Tokyo back in January 2020. Was asleep at our hotel on like the 15th floor and woke up to the room shaking and a swaying feeling. I am a very heavy sleeper and it woke me up like getting slapped in the face. It freaked me out at first but then I realized what it was.

According to the blue people all earthquakes since the beginning of time have been caused by evil fracking, Trump and ARs. It is my understanding that fracking has been proven to have caused at least some of the earthquakes in this province. I don't know if I believe that but it is fact that this one happened in a high fracking area. And we are, no where near any fault lines. It is also curious that it happened at the same depth that fracking in the area is being done. Or so they say. I don't know how they could know how deep it was. I know the tecknowledgy to do so is available, but I doubt it was in place for this event. The claims are all a bit too convenient and too hard to prove for my liking.

When my kids where much younger we were visiting some caves in NoCal (Mercer Caverns?) during a mild earth quake. Got our attentions. You don't want to be underground when one hits. Very unnerving.

But up top it had shook things up pretty good. Knockrd stuff off of shelves and what not. The folks in line to come down next bailed.
