Does anyone still hunt with Remington Core Lokt bullets? Dad started me on those, .30-.06, 150 gr. South Texas killing machines, good entry, good exits, plenty of blood trail, packs a solid punch. In 1980s/90s, could get boxes of them pretty much anywhere for $14-20. Nowadays up around $30 a box and not as easy to find with today's inflated prices. Also shoot the 100gr. Core Lokts out of my .25-.06, the laser beam. Does anyone else still shoot Core Lokts, what caliber and grain?

Don't know how many boxes I have left but that was what we shot out of the .243 and .270 for a long time. I believe they were 100gr in the .243 and 130gr in the .270. Nowadays I'm using the 90gr Hornady ELD-X more, but that is more often because it's available when I'm buying than anything else.

They are great bullets but they have a low BC and run out of steam pretty quickly and until recently the quality control for charge weights in factory ammo was atrocious. Close up they are the ones to beat. If I'm getting someone else's rifle ready for hunting and they're not hand loaders I will frequently just site in with the core-lokt tipped factory ammo and hand them a few boxes of it when I give the rifle back to them.

I have several boxes I use on pigs in my 270. They do better on big hogs than my Hornaday SSTs I use for deer.

In my 30-06 I've used the 150 grain PSP pretty much exclusively ever since I bought it as a young teen, they've always been excellent on deer and hogs. I'm interested in giving the tipped ones a try if I can ever find some 150 grain ones at a reasonable price.

I use the 100 grain core-lokts in my 25-06 as well. They flat out hammer deer. Also used to used those in the .243 but don't ever really hunt that gun anymore.

I used to use them but never really seemed to be able to group very well with them. Switched to Hornady SSTs and have been very happy.

After I made the switch I was talking with a range officer and he was talking about shooting accuracy. Said a good rule of thumb was that if he saw someone shooting with a green and yellow box of ammo - they would be all over the place.

The last time that I weighed a batch they had twice the weight variance of similar Hornady bullets.

Core-lokt ammunition transcends all logic we apply when reloading ammo. I've seen massive variances in charge weights from them but somehow they still tend to shoot as well or better across different rifles than most other ammunition out there. They are like shooting something with hand grenades, but that's not always bad either. I have a collection of separated jackets and lead cores saved from back in the day before I started reloading. And when they exit Ray Charles could follow the blood trail.

I’ve shot deer with 100 grain 243, 130/150 grain 270 win, and 180 grain 30-06. They have done ok by me. Like most cup and core bullets, exactly what you hit changes how they do, heavy bone vs. ribs/lung.

I got a 20+ year old box from my uncle when I bought my 30-06. The 180 grain core locks had a 200 fps range in velocity yet still grouped moa at 100 yards. I shot deer with them for 2 years without complaint.

Used to shoot the .243 100, .270 130, and .308 150. All were killers and never had one not perform as it should. But then the quality/accuracy nosedived. A sub-MOA rifle became 2-2.5 MOA. I find the Fed Fusion is a more than adequate replacement and bullet performance is about identical.

Used them many years ago. I did buy the new Core Lokt Tipped in 130 grain for my 270. Have watched many online video reviews that speak fondly of the new load with the polymer tip in terms of punch and accuracy. I have not shot it yet.

Here is a review.

Personally in the field, I'm not worried about shooting MOA or under MOA. If at 200 yards or < I can put a shot in a 3" circle, I'm more than content. If I was shooting all the time at range or even competitively, a totally different ballgame.

This R.O. concurs with that R.O's assessment.

Seen most Rem Core Lokt not stay inside 3 " at 100 yards, much less 200 yards.

I've not had those issues, guess I've gotten the good lot batches. Tend to hit where I've aimed out to 300 yards. I generally refrained from shooting beyond that.

For this common hunter that is the only bullet I shoot with great success in my .270, 7 mag and my old 25-06.
Never had a problem with performance with my CORE-LOKT bullets up

Guess you got a bad batch. I've never had a problem with them. My 270 groups the 150s perfect.

Of the cheap deer ammo, I’ve always found the Federal Power Shok to be the best shooting and killed just fine.

200 yards, 130 grain Core-lokts Weatherby Vanguard in .270. Leupold 3-9 power VX2. High and left is cold shot.

I guess I just got a good box…grin
