I’ve not shot a ton of game with a bow but have shot a decent number….I think I’m at # 33 currently.
Most have been shot with a 70# compound with a big mechanical broadhead. In most instances when hit behind the shoulder deer die very quickly and in a pool of blood.
My daughter wanted for us to go kill a doe so we went off and spent the better part of 3 hours trying to get it done with my recurve, but never had a doe offering us a high percentage shot.
The next evening we went back with my compound bow, and I took a slight quartering-to shot on one, arrow buried up to the fletching and she kicks and takes off.
Find the arrow about 40 yards past the impact site covered in blood, she’s bleeding good but follow and follow and no deer. She jumps a cross fence and continues on where I find her another 50 yards up the trail….in all she traveled around 150 yards.
Upon autopsy there is a perfect 3 blade hole thru both lungs….incredible how tough these animals can be.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Yeah it's incredible how they can go. But you have to figure in an all out burst that 150 yards was covered in just a few seconds.

Yeah it's incredible how they can go. But you have to figure in an all out burst that 150 yards was covered in just a few seconds. Oh for sure, I was just amazed that she made it that far. Most deer I’ve shot ram 30-40 yards and piled up. Hell, a 400 lb bear didn’t make it that far !

Congrats on the doe while hunting with your Daughter.
Like pointed out they can cover a lot of ground in a short time.
Lung shots I fully believe the speed in which they kill has to do with how full of air the lungs are when shot. Fully deflated lungs will get more damage done than fully inflated lungs. Hard part is being able to shoot one as they have exhaled fully when the shot hits.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

Quartering to has always been the worst shot for me. I've had a couple go a long ways myself. I just assumed I was only getting one lung. Congrats on the recovery!
