You’ll never hear a complaint from me about shooting wood ducks.

Woodies best tasting duck IMO, teal a close second

Always liked woodies but wigeon and pintail are right up there too. Also teal with a preference to greenwings. Anything with a bill specifically designed for grain really.

Never had a bad wood duck in my life. Also, they tend to get really chunky, which is nice, because rendered about 6oz of fresh fat off of just three ducks the other day. Great for cooking!

I subscribe to the theory that ducks taste like what they recently et. A gadwall fat on rice will taste better than a gadwall soaking up pond water and mud bugs. That's why I like canvasbacks a lot. Up there with Teal and pintail. But having said this, ring necks are exclusively weed and seed eaters (at least according to what I've read). But they do dive deeper for those. That may be a difference. Just like a cow, some goes to steaks, some to confit and some to sausage. You can make sausage out of an old boot if you season it enough.

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.
