Fishdfly’s post about the new SA-35 prompted me to share my impression. Rather than hijack his thread, I put it here. Bird seasons, deer season, and family have been occupying most of my free time lately but I did find a little time to scratch my handgun itch and check out what Springfield did with the High Power. It is old school goodness modernized. Frame and slide are forged. The pistol has no plastic or MIM parts. All steel with the exception of wood grips and made in the U.S.A. Field stripping is simpler than with a 1911. Fit and finish is not flashy but business like and really good.(this suits my 62 year old taste) The pistol is tight. The trigger is really good however the reset is kinda long. The one I have breaks clean at 4.4 pounds with zero creep or grit. No hammer bite. The sights are very good. The mag well is beveled. The hammer has a half [censored] which I like. The safety is about perfect. Right now I’m still mining brass so factory ammo is all I’ve shot in it. 300 rounds is what I’ve put through it to date with zero failures. It has fed ball and hollow points from 115 to 147 with no hiccups. The pistol is surprisingly accurate. I did a short accuracy test with Winchester white box 124 NATO and it impressed the heck out of me. My accuracy test was 3 five shot groups of two handed 25 yard slow fire. The aggregate average was 1.6” with everything in the ten ring. Best group was 1.4”. I believe a young man with young eyes and nerves might do a little better. I am curious what the pistol is capable of after I get around to working up a load for it. (Probably won’t happen till spring)This is one soft shooting pistol. Shooting fast there is very little muzzle flip making it very easy to control if you like to rip and tear a little bit. Like the FN high power, it is among the most natural pointing pistols shooting one handed I have shot. It is only a sample of one pistol but my initial 300 round impression is a lot of pistol for $699. If you want a high power to shoot, for the life of me I think the new Springer is a better pistol than the original FN. It will be interesting to see if any of the competition guys do anything with it.

I’m intrigued for sure. I have yet to see one in person. It would be a pretty good option for 3 gun or maybe IDPA (I can’t remember division requirements for IDPA), but sadly, there’s not a division where it would shine in USPSA.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Great feedback. I know I enjoy shooting mine. My ONLY complaint was that they only come with one magazine from the factory where as most of their other guns come with at least two.

FYI...Springfield has magazines back in stock for these @ 20% off for Black Friday deal. I ordered a few yesterday and have already received a shipping notice.

I might pick up the a few new 15 rounders since they are supposed to work in the original HP.

Shot the SA-35 again just now. Still getting used to the sight picture but man I like it. Was feeling pretty steady and the light was good so I shot a few more 25 yard groups with it. These are 5.6 grains of Accurate no 5, Winchester small pistol primer and a 124 XTP in once fired Winchester brass at 25 steps. The pistol likes it. The bottom group was rested to see if I could tighten up what I was doing and it did a little bit. This Springer is a shooter!

Edit to add: the sights appear to be spot on from the factory and no adjustment has been made.

Lol. That was two handed and slow fire. When I speed up, I am a hack after the first three shots.

Good shooting and sounds like a good purchase.

Side note, and maybe I’m the only one, but I just do not like the lines and looks of the hipower. 1911’s are works of art to me, but hipowers are just meh kinda remind me of a communist pistol or something.

High Power is John Browning’s final masterpiece and currently the military side arm in 50 countries…

You're a better man than me on shooting a semiautomatic handgun.

They are still not lasting long on the shelves. What I posted is only one pistol. Hopefully it is a useful data point for some on here that may be mulling over purchasing one.
