Just read a report that said 6000 people in the US, every day, carry a handgun daily, and that was double last years number. 6000…gimme a break. It’s probably way more than that just in DFW. I wonder what the number is in Texas.

That 6000 number does not include the folks with a gun in their car.

I have no clue where that data came from but I agree, they need to move the decimal.

No clue where they get their data or where that is supposed to be but they will never know the real number and if it is concealed they have no idea who is carrying

It appears that the data came from a survey (phone?), and most folks just said they didn’t carry or even own guns. I can understand that. Who needs that information, what’s it going to be used for, and why should I tell them anything in this day and age.

So, what they wound up with is thinking 6000 people in a country of over 300,000,000 carry a firearm daily. It’s a ridiculously low number and nowhere near correct, but they believed it and went to publication with it.

I don’t carry or keep one in my vehicle. Unless, I leave town and we do that a lot. Then I have a Judge.

I’m rethinking keeping one in the vehicle. The wrong cop can be a nightmare so not sure.

One in the holster on my belt.

AR pistol

Bolt action scoped rifle

That's what's in my truck. At least Texas LEOs have got the message that I'm prepped for hogs, coyotes, and bad guys. If ever any of those got used near one of those LEOs it would be to help them, not against them.

I carry everywhere I go. Only time it stays home is if I’m going to the post office.

Have any of you been stopped for any reason and then had an issue by a cop due to pistol?

My one and only encounter was real smooth. Gave him my DL and LTC, he asked if I was carrying and I said yes, he asked where and I told him, and that was that.

Never had an issue carrying. Only stopped once in the last 10 years.

I have been pulled over several times and every single time I have been told by the LEO, “thank you for carrying”. Only issue I ever had was while being a designated driver for a friend (I was driving his car) and I unintentionally forgot to handover my CCL initially, but did upon his return from his car. Even though I wasn’t carrying nor was there a firearm in the car he was beyond pissed I didn’t present this at the first encounter, I simply forgot. He insinuated he could make my life difficult if he wanted because of this. There were some other prejudicial circumstances that he was clearly and wrongly accusing me of, but I kept my cool, was respectful and got my speeding ticket and all was well.

I had a strong conversation with an off duty DPS Trooper at a mutual friends BBQ this past summer. He said you MUST show your LTC when pulled over. I told him he’s FOS. If you’re NOT carrying then there’s NO obligation to present when stopped or pulled over.

When I took the course 12 years ago I thought I recalled you had to show the license no matter if carrying or not. But, I honestly have no idea if that was actually the rule then or if it’s the rule now. I always have done so regardless. Guess I need to look it up.

You are correct. If you are carrying you have to ID, driving or not, LTC or not.

Correct you are. Only if asked for identification AND if carrying do you need to provide your LTC.

Yep. In Palmer on I45. I guess the LEO was nervous with me having a gun. Had me take it out of the console and hand it to him. He then took it back to his vehicle, returned a few minutes later with my gun and a speeding ticket. I was doing 78 in a 70 with plenty of ppl blowing by me. Honestly I thought playing ball was gonna get me a warning but when he came back with the ticket I turned into a real azz questioning his reason for taking my weapon and why he wasnt pulling over the vehicle doing 80-90 instead.

I would NEVER hand a LEO my gun.

I would step out of vehicle and let him/her get it if he/she felt better.

I’ve never had a cop ask me to hand them the gun. They’ve always said leave yours where it’s at and I’ll leave mine where it’s at. Most cops change their demeanor when you show them the CHL. They seem to kinda ease a bit. I’ve never had a problem with a police officer during a stop after showing them my CHL.

It's so far from possible to know this data that it's pure stupidity to report on it.

I was pulled over in Virginia by a state trooper back in 2000, before carrying concealed was popular or easy. At the time I was a Virginia resident and had a VA CHL. By law, I had a duty to notify the officer I was carrying, so I did.

"You're carrying?"

"Yes, sir."

"Let me see your license."

"Here you go."

"OK, pull your pistol and place it on the dash, then step outside and come with me."

I did so, and we went back to his car and I sat in the passenger seat as he wrote me a ticket for illegal tint and speeding, all the while talking about turkey season and hunting whatnot. Cost me a couple hundred bucks. bang

They meant 600,000.

I saw a clip about this report on Fox news tonight. They said 6,000,000 carry daily in the US. That sounds more realistic to me.
