Archery HuntingIowa offers some of the best whitetail deer hunting in the nation and that's why getting an archery tag here is one of the most difficult whitetail tags to draw within the state. You must have either two preference points to draw Zone 3 or four to five preference points to draw Zone 4. Please contact us here at Iowa Elite Outfitters for more information on our archery hunts as only a limited number of archery hunts are sold per year. Archery season first split runs from October 1st to the first Friday in December and then starts again the third Monday in December to January 10th.
A typical hunt day includes hunting treestand set up by the outfitter most of the day or all of the day during rut without a guide. All treestands will be ladder treestands, hang-on treestands, or tripod treestands.
Late Season MuzzleloaderOne of the best seasons to hunt and the easiest to draw is late Muzzleloader! You can draw this tag with zero preference points in Zone 3 or at least one preference point in Zone 4. We prefer you have at least one point for Zone 3 or two for Zone 4. These hunts run from the third Monday in December to January 10th and hunters may pick any six days during this period to hunt. Muzzleloader season offers some of the best hunting because of the brutal Iowa weather! When the weather is below zero the deer love to find food sources and this is your best chance other than a rut archery hunt to harvest a mature buck.
A typical hunt day starts around 9:30 am to 10:00 am where you will be taken to a ground blind or tower stand and dropped off with or without a guide. Walking into food sources during the morning disrupts the normal feeding habits of animals. However, if you so choose you can hunt the mornings in select locations.
Firearms HuntingDuring firearms season you may use Straight Wall Rifles, Muzzleloaders, and Shotguns a complete list of legal firearms can be found on the Iowa DNR's website. You'll be the first to hunt the properties with a firearm if you come the first season right after the rut has finished! These hunts are relatively easy to draw and take zero points in Zone 3 and at least one point in Zone 4. Again, we recommend you have at least one preference point for Zone 3 and two for Zone 4 to guarantee your draw status.
A typical hunt day includes going to the tower blinds or ground blinds first thing in the morning and hunting all day in that location. We might or might not come in for lunch, if this occurs sack lunches will be provided. Some tree stand hunting might occur, but, most hunting will be conducted out of tower blinds or ground blinds.
