I’m gaining weight just thinking about it! Brown up some good 80/20, push the meat to one side and make some gravy with all that grease. Then drown some fresh buttermilk biscuits with it and your in business! One of my favorite meals.

I can’t wait for someone to call it “toast soup”.

Always thought that was poor folks food. Had my fair share as a kid but no way these days.

I like SOS, but this mixture isn't anything like SOS I've had. This is mega times better, and good for breakfast or supper. However, we use sausage instead of beef for this.

Isn't SOS something like chipped beef and gravy on toast?

You are right… My reading comprehension is poor. We always called biscuits and gravy s-o-s growing up. But yeah… the toast is the shingle. And it will work in a pinch. But fresh buttermilk biscuits make it more gooder!

I substitute ground beef or venison for the chipped beef and love it.

We was po' folks and when that 'guvment' commodity truck rolled into town we hoped for two things, that chipped beef can or one of the small canned hams. So salty it all had to be boiled first. Meat was scarce, the canned meat was supplemented with the occasional tree rat. Big cans of peanut butter, flour, beans, butter, shortening, sugar surplus foods helped if you could get early in line. Sometimes by the end of a month we would be a little thin food wise but Mom would make bread or biscuits and slap that nasty peanut butter on em. Strangely enough, I still love those foods, the sos, the bisquits, the peanut butter...but no squirrel, nope, nope!!

My dad made it most often as a dish for supper.

I doubt anyone's gonna die if they eat it for supper.

Do for yourself as much as you can, eat what nature provides as much as you can. This is the key to sleeping well and living long.
