What is your time worth confused2

Do you ever ask to be compensated in some form or fashion when a company through their fault waste your personal time and or other expense?

I rarely ever ask for something when a company makes an honest mistake that does not impose any hardship on me, if it becomes a big pain in the backside or loss of money or goods then yes I want to be compensated fairly.

Had a hiccup at SAM's Club at Coit & George Bush this am.
One of the gals that works with my wifes battery went Kaput so they call me for help. I get the info on the vehicle and call SAM's, after about 6 rings they answer, I ask when does automotive dept open, they said its open and transferred me, after about 10 rings it hangs up on me.

I called back to the main line no one will answer, hung up and for the next 30 minutes kept calling letting it ring about 20 times to no avail.
So I drive my nappy headed self up there and the auto guy seemed genuinely apologetic, yes he has the battery I need.
Before I leave the store I speak to the mgr. nicely letting him know what happened, he apologizes and we are cool.

Now off to pick up the gals vehicle South of Forest Ln & Hillcrest and then drive back up to SAM's.
Get there head cheese says it will be about 20-30 minutes me cool, during that wait I decided to do a walk about checking stuff out and the meat dept. is one of my favorites to salivate over, they had some pretty good mark downs on certain steaks and there were a couple of Prime Boneless Ribeyes that looked tempting but our freezer is in good shape food wise, 45 minutes later their done I am down the road.

About to turn on Hillcrest from Forest Rd and I get a call from SAMS, now I am thinking the knuckle heads are going to tell me my car is ready not realizing it is fixed and down the road.
Nope the guy says "Oh sorry we forgot to put the safety plate & bolt for the battery back on can you come back up here and we will fix it for you".
Me nope, the woman needs her car but I will pick it up in a short, drop the gals car off.

Drive back to Sam's, walk directly to the meat dept., picked out what I perceived as the best pack of the marked down Ribeyes, go to the auto dept. get the part and it is mgr. time again, it was the same guy as before. "Me do you remember me from an hour ago, him yes. So I tell him what happened this time and I smiled showed him the pack of steaks and said this is what I want for compensation for the issues I have had to deal with today, he smiled back and said no problem and walked me out the exit.

Total of 52.2 miles driving which will include my trip down there on Monday to put the part on.
29.6 of that would have been normal driving to fix.
22.6 were additional trips driven because of their errors.

When you factor in my additional personal time spent , gas and wear & tear on my truck I certainly did not come out ahead, but I am okay with it up

I hade some work done on a Chevy truck years ago and paid with a check. The manager called me several days later and said they had lost the check and would like another one. I took their invoice and reproduced it including my time spent stopping payment at the bank, lost wages from work to go back to the dealership, fuel ect ect. It went from 700 bucks on theirs, down to about 200 bucks on mine. I gave them a check for 200 and my invoice. I stopped back by the dealership a few months later and my invoice was framed and on the wall behind the service desk for the employees to see.

Good job! No reason you should pay for their (SAM's) mistakes or stupidity.

My wife deals with this kind of stuff all day. She always tries to make things right. The smart ones realize you spend a lot of money in their store over the years, so its wise to do whatever you can to retain the customer for life.

Good job Stub.
I have had power companies cost me $1,000s and act like they do not give a damn. It sucks when you have to deal with monopolies.

Why Thank You Sir, that is a very kind offer! They are packaged up and in the mail, should be on your front door any minute now grin

I did have a little fun on my second trip to SAM's. I really looked like a bum when I went in, tattered shirt had not brushed my hair or shaved.

You know when you walk into stores like that they have vendors setup around the store, first one was an AT&T and a clean cut young Black man was working it.
Him " How are you doing today sir? Me " Don't waste your time on me, I am homeless and just up here shoplifting!
Him with a big grin" Well good luck sir!

So off I went to the meat dept. to get the pack of steaks, while I was walking back past him heading to where you should enter the store, I flashed the pack of steaks at him, he grinned and said great choice, I replied now I have to figure out how to cook them.

If he did not see me converse with the manager right after that you have to wonder what the heck was he thinking?
I find it fun to nicely mess with all kinds of employees, most have fun with it too.
