Trying to put together a simple but effective hog hunting rifle which would be either my AR in 308, 6.8 SPC or 223/.56. All of them have regular scopes on them. Considering just throwing a Sniper Hog Green Light on one and calling it a day for night time hunting. The feeders will have green motion sensor lights. Would the sniper hog light be a waste of money or work well for my needs?

Buying a thermal is out of the question. Can’t afford one anytime soon. I might be able to dish out for a Sightmark Wraith 4K Max though if on sale. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have a green light on my .308 Sig AR. Works fine for where I hunt. Thermal would be nice for scanning but I cant justify it on the little farm I hunt. My light is from Nitecore.

Get a Wraith and use the included illuminator. I know it’s easy to spend other people’s money, but it’s head and shoulders above your other options.

Leaning towards the Wraith 4K Max. Found it for about $500 so might just bite the bullet and get it.

The Wraith line can be killers. Just pick the one with the base mag that meets your needs or buy one and hunt with it within it’s limitations you’ll be way happier than with a green light

Thanks. For $509 I feel pretty good about the purchase.

Buddy of mine has one on his rifle and I've had the chance to look through it at night. Was pretty impressed with it but I don't have any other experience with other night vision. I'm sure it will work well for my needs.

I have the Wraith and its great. I did get a better IR light from Sniper Hog that helped a lot. Still cheaper than a Thermal

I've looked into the sniper hog lights for it and might end up getting one. I want to try out the one that came with the optic first and see if it will do the job. Wondering if I can run different batteries in the IR light. It comes with two CR123A's and would like to use something like a 16340 or equivalent rechargeable battery.

Where we have the green feeder lights set up, we simply use a conventional scoped rifle with illuminated reticle. Works just fine.
Where we don’t have the green lights, I use the Wraith 4k mini with a Sniper Hog 38 850n illuminator.

Did you see a big difference when going with the Sniper Hog 38 850n illuminator?

Absolutely. Extended my range out past 300yards which helps as I have wide open spaces and can use the extra reach. I’m talking about seeing entire animal and what’s around it…not just glow of the eyes.Their lights also have a really good beam to focus tight or flood. Out past 200 yards, it’s like shooting in daylight , but black and white of course.

Thanks for the info. Any reason why you didn't go with the larger ones like 50LRX, 66LRX or Coyote Canyon? I see they have the regular IR and Turbo IR. Which did you go with?

I have used both the ATN 4K Pro 5-20 and the Wraith Mini. I upgraded to the NightSnipe IR 750 kit for both. Big difference between those units and the factory unit. I very much like the dimmable/telescoping feature and the elevation/windage adjustablity of the picitinny mount.

A short vid using the ATN night vision and upgraded IR illuminator.

Actual distance is +/- 120 yds.

ya!

I only wanted/needed to see 300 yards or so and didn’t want the bulk of the others heads. I called them and walked through my goals and they assisted with a perfect match. Call them.
